I remember back in the heyday of the 3/30 seasons we used to see that weather map every week or so. Last season, our local weather man illustrated the jet stream with an arrow pointing due South straight out of Canada more than once. (a couple of times during the period of time between the season opener and about new years day) Then for some reason, the pattern shifted back to the westerly jet stream that we have been cursed with for the past decade or so.

Sure hope we get some of that action again.
La Nina or El Nino is what causes that west east patteren! One of them and I get 'em confused!

El Nino causes the west east pattern of rain storms from California area to hear, can't remember exactly what La Nina causes, all I know is it is the reverse of El Nino, which means it is dry as hell for us!!

Ya know.....this cold pattern is setting-up nice and slow.......gradual push instead of all-at-once and it's over. This thing is slow, cold and will linger for 10 days.......just right for frezzing stuff, above us.

What's going to hurt us somewhat is......yeah, the lows look good, but the highs are going to be too high to make things freeze solid, up in MO. At any rate, I'll take any kind of 'push'........have sat watching blank skies for 5 days, now.........that'tll really work on you.

It'll be interesting to see what shows-up (duck-wise) around Thursday of this coming week. I don't expect too much before then.

Happy Hunting!

I wish that some where in the near future there will be a weather channel that targets duck hunters
Life is to short to only fish on weekends

'Duckiller'......the weather channel DOES target duck hunters........they miss the forecast so bad that it gets our hopes up.

Too bad this cold system is gonna peter-out before it has much affect. Oh, the birds will be closer.....and we may get a few......just not gonna get cold enough to do us much good, these last two weeks, but I'll take anything besides tee-shirt weather.

High temps during the day and no cloud cover will keep a lot of water open. Low temps need to be around 17 for 3-4 nights in a row, with daytime highs below 35-39......'aint' gonna do it this go-'round.

No way we get screwed by the weather, huh?

A family friend in MN says that last night was the first time the lake behind his house has frozen solid with no open water. Crazy! All the ice fishermen are complaining up there just like we are down here. No ice thick enough to fish on in the middle of Jan.

I was in the state for another funeral this weekend and drove all the way to Vicksburg and back and did not see a single duck in the air or on the water. I looked at every hole of water I knew always held ducks. Hope this front gives you guys at least a little good ole huntin' weather.

Could be worse...we could be in OK with all that ice! Looks like a mess out there.

OK...let's review this prediction......made some 2 weeks ago.....
Anatidae wrote:.......from an article on Accuweather.com.....
Bastardi (Joe) believes that if the change in the weather pattern reaches its full potential, the onset of cold weather could result in "one of the top-five coldest 30-day stretches in the past half century."
Supposedly, this will start around 10 days from now. Check-out the local forecast for January 16th - on. This could be the 'shot' we've been waiting for......

What we didn't read between the lines on this one.......that this condition only applies to an area just North of us.....again! The front (and cold air) stalled about Oklahoma to Kentucky.......and the low 20's we were suppose to experience.....well, let's just say it didn't get below freezing. So, if this doesn't teach us to disregard what the weather forecasts hold (orat least teach us to take it with a heavy dose of salt), then we oughta suffer every bit of disappointment we feel when we believe there is 'hope'.

Again.......ducks will not get down here until OUR temps are sub 20's for 3-5 days in a row......with highs no higher than 38-40 with no sunshine.......like March.
