Evan G. seminar?
so how was it? I had a youth hunt lined up, but was looking forward to making it friday. the lack of a transmission in my truck has been changing my plans for over a week now.. kudos to charles, trey and everybody else that made it happen. that is a bigtime opportunity for local dog folks, and hate that I couldn't make it.

I thought it went off with out a hitch, well that is if you take out the fact that there were a couple of people who could not hit a flyier.
But in all sencerity, it was a great seminar, EG is an awsome speaker. I hate you missed it. There is talk already about putting on another one this fall, with the focus being on transition work.
We will keep ya'll posted.

I can say that I picked up some good tips and enjoyed meeting the people. Personally, I will benefit more next year when my pup has progressed to (hopefully) transistion and beyond.
But, it was worth the travel and expense. But don't expect Trey to buy your meal!!!

The seminar was well worth the 240 mile drive . . . that ended in snow.
Learned a lot. Most of which is in the books, but its not the same as getting it in person. The handout and flowchart are nice. For some reason, seeing it written on the board:
1 Here
2. sit
3. heel
4. kennell
etc. through double T
is clearer than reading the steps in the book.
We saw the "here" training and the drills being set up and run, and that adds a lot. We saw the four phase drill, saw definitive casting, which now seems ridiculously simple, saw stickmen drill, and saw the drill for casting off a point - awesome. For those familiar with WW swimby and stuff, he didn't mention it but all the drills are set up for the dog to proceed in baby steps so as to reduce confusion and to teach and to ID problems BEFORE they develope in the midle of the drill.
A lot of what was learned though came from EG talking to us as someone handled thier own dog and we saw how to deal with all kinds of issues.
Came home and put hybrid bisquit's dog through "here" and it went well and worked well, just like at the workshop.
It didn't work so well on an older dog, though
I got acouple of the DVD's and looked at the beginning of the obediance DVD and it looks a whole lot like the seminar stuff, so I highly recomend them.

It wan't that we were missing the duck we were working on a new training concept. Instead of a retired gunner we were doing a retired duck, that is why the duck came back to the blind. BTW Trey I hit the duck the one time i did shoot, you missed.

....the word flyers keeps surfacing.......what do you call a "missed" duck...one that hits the ground...shakes it off...then turns and calmly walks back to the gunner blind?
BWAAAHAHAHAHAHA!
P.S. Glad I wasn't the one shooting at those things!

must of been one of them new kevlar ducks! bwhahahhaha
EG sure was pissed when that second duck hit the ground and walked back to the blind and laughed at the gunners. We should have sent Marty out there for backup and see if he would have come back with excuses about the sun in his eyes or wind in his face!!!!!

I raised those ducks from eggs, couldn't bring myself to kill one. Thats the only reason I missed. I love those little guys....
