Farmer/Aycock Video

Postby Bayou Beagle » Thu Apr 12, 2007 7:46 pm

Received mine today and watched the parts about marking at the line and in the field, very informative.

One thing that I noticed being more of a newbie to the sport is that even though the dogs used may have been FC or AFC they were not robots. They exhibited personality at the line and were not motionless.

I think sometimes as a new trainer or dog owner, we think that the perfect obedience is for the dog to be absolutely still at the line or the perfect heel, and that's not always correct. They can be obedient and still have personality.

Very interesting video for me. I'm sure most people would get something out of it.

I think it is, but then again I don't know as much as others. I think overall it was a good purchase.

I planning on running the Huricanne lake HT first of may since it's a lot closer to home and my dog is still at the trainers.

Thought you were going to run Huricanne Lake?

I forgot that your dog got hurt at the last HT. Good Luck at the HT. Might be looking to split a room at Huricanne if you're interested.

I think the video is well worth the money. It has some good info and is overall just entertaining. I know they hit on several issues that you wouldn't get from most the training material I have. It was a lot of good dog talk, like what to do if your dog gives this type of refusal. How to break it down and what kind of correction they recommend.
It appears that they attempted to use a variety of different tempered dogs.

I concur, also I noted that they were ecollar happy. Showed many times how to work through a problem using attrition vs pressure.

I think most people who are into retrievers have a preconceived notion of what an FC-AFC looks and acts like. Robotic, kenneled dogs that are automatic all the time. IT IS great to watch them work and some of the feats trial dogs pull off are magnificent. But dogs they are!!

After your first trial you will understand that they are dogs just like yours. FC-AFC dogs are VERY special ones but they are also just dogs first. Glad you watched the video BB.
