Limit Question

Postby torch » Thu Dec 19, 2002 11:42 am

Had a buddy tell me he hunted yesterday on a federal reserve and killed a limit of ducks. I said great what did you have: 4 mallards 1 woodie 1 gadwall 4 mergansers and 1 hooded merganser. I said wait thats 11 ducks. He said that that is a legal limit in Ms. Can this be right?

I do believe there is a separate merg. bag limit. But my question would have been "What the heck do you want with those Mergansers?"

The bag limit is 6 ducks. Mergansers are not ducks.

:( Mergansers are not part of the legal 6 bird limit for ducks.
Neither are coots but why the heck would you shoot them?

I know, just had to see something die. It's a damn shame to kill something simply cause you can. If you eat them then more power to you. If you kill and throw away - your not worthy of the right to hunt and would not do it but once while hunting with me. There would be a mud stomping in the marsh, you can bank on that.

I lost a bet once and had to eat a merganser. It was worse than snowgoose. I don't shoot 'em.

He probably just shot them to say that he killed more than 6 birds so people would ask how that was possible, therby creating this thread!

Torch, don't you guide duck hunts? All guides should know the limits-what you can and can't shoot.

What's a limit on ducks??? All the ducks you can shoot plus 1.

Just Kidding!

I didn't think it would happen but Duckmen and I see eye to eye on something for a change. No point in shooting them meganeezers...preach on.

coots

Postby chance » Thu Dec 19, 2002 8:32 pm

Don't knock eatng those ugly coots. Kimfolk in Alexadria La. make gumbo from coots and fry the liver. along with th chicory coffe made on the stove. Coots around them get as decoy wary as a mallard.

use them as....

Postby dukdawgn » Thu Dec 19, 2002 11:33 pm

leave them laying as live decoys on the water....other than that....

use them as training ducks for the du-dawg-puppies...(if you absolutely have to shoot them without eating them)

I par-boiled a merganser recently and then put it into a gumbo along with some other ducks, cut gizzards & livers, two dozen oysters, a pound & a half of shrimp, and okra. No complaints here.

Yes, I also like poule dous. Don't knock if if you have not tried it.
