I have a new pup that I am quite proud of and planning on training myself. He is 10 weeks old and we are going through all of the stuff that 10 week old pups are supposed to go through from what I have read and heard. All along I have planned on training him myself and thus far I have enjoyed every minute of it, however, being a first time trainer, I am worried that I will not do the dog proper justice as I want him to reach his full potential, whatever that potential is.

With all of that being said, as a back-up plan, I am looking at possible trainers for formal training. I have read the trainer sticky and have inquired about many of the trainers listed.

Have any of you guys used Wildrose Kennels in Oxford? Do you have to buy a pup from them in order to be selected for their training? I will call them and ask, but I wanted to see what you guys had to say first. Thanks

Never used Wildrose, or any pro for that matter, but it all depends on what you want to do with the dog.

If I wanted to run british style field trials......Wildrose would be at the top of my list.

If I wanted a really nice hunting dog and/or possible run hunt test.....I would look into something else.

there are no shortage of good trainers in this area and would encourage you to do A LOT of research if you decide to go that route.

So what are your goals?

For some reason, I am getting the feeling that Wildrose is taboo here. Consider me stupid, I am just inquiring.

not taboo man... just a very specfic methodology and results. Most of us here run tests or trials with dogs. Those methods and dogs aren't the dealio for us.

Skunas right, you need to decide what you want, and the answer for a trainer will be easier.

Im not sure, but I think if its isnt a wildrose dog, they wont train it. Again not sure.

B3 and drakeshead on here both have a good relationship with wildrose, and Im sure can answer your specifics better. travis

My goals...most definitely a very steady, solid hunting dog at the least that is capable of multiple blinds and the like. If the dog (and me) has it to be a hunt test animal, then I am game for that as well. I want him to be the best that he can be. I am very interested in learning all I can about training so that I am not a hindrance to the dogs ultimate ability. Hence my problem. For the dog to be as good as he can be, I realize I am not the answer at the moment. Therefore, I am tempted to call in outside help to aid in reaching potential as well as a learning device for me in handling a dog properly.

I would go with a hunt test pro with in your region so you can make weekly visits and spend a lot of time training with them on the weekends.

Wildrose will train dogs that are not from their kennel, but as far as i can tell from going out to their kennel and reading on their website they don't FF.

Delta.......call Glenn McElroy in Vaiden. He came highly recommended to me, and he has my pup right now. 662-392-1096

He's handled a good friend of mines MH dog quite often.
