RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MS. RIVER
Two of my fellow hunters and I went on what was thought to be a routine duck hunt. After having a great hunt(limiting out in a couple of hours)we decided to try them again(the next day). We left out of the log loader headed down river. Going along smoothly when the motor started screaming like it was in neutral. With only idling speed we where stuck in the swift current. The only option was to try to make it to the MS. bank. When trying to make it the boat seemed to be at the mercy of the furious currents. After turning the prop back and forth to somewhat head in the right direction we managed to start heading for the slack water close to the bank(knowing if we made it to this part of the river it would be easier to get controll of the boat.) Using the stocks of our guns and the idle speed we managed to reach the bank. Just reaching the bank brought much relief. It's a not a good feeling to be in the middle of the MS. river floating with no power. Of coarce this had to be one of the busiest days of the week for tow boats. Somehow we managed to get to the bank and luckily get a signal on a cell phone. Lessons learned 1 carry the tools u bought earlier in the year for the boat in the boat. 2 carry an extra prop. The rubber bushen in the prop was slipping. 3 It can happen to you!! 4 You can never be to prepaired.

My grandfather has fished commercially on the river for 40 years. He always put in at Terreen, which, by the way, he says someone over there has bought that property from the levee board and is gonna try to close it to the public but that's another thread. Several years ago he was coming back down the river from concordia with a boat load of buffalo when his motor quit. It was almost impossible to steer with all that fish and he ended up on a sandbar a mile or two below Terreen. He spent the night out there and the worst part about it was the mosquitos. He broke up a bunch of cottonwood limbs and made a big pile and crawled underneath to try and escape those bloodsuckers without much luck. The next morning he flagged down a boat and got towed to shore. Nowadays he carries an extra 25 horse motor just for emergencies.

Hey timberjack I was born and raised in the "City Of Brotherly Love" (and people just thought Philly was the city of brotherly love) I'm willing to bet i know your grandfather. Terreen (the land around the landing) was bought by Joe Janoush (who ownes JanTran) To my understanding the ramp will always be open to the public. Beware alot of trucks and other vehicles have been broken into and vandilized while parked there. Same goes for the log loader ramp

Glad you didn't get caught by one of those big boats. I know from stories, that your pops has had a close call with them trying to snatch that last jug out from under the shadow of a barge (former born and raised in the Delta city of brotherly love myself). How did Joe buy terrene? has the corp abandoned the gauge there? and what about the people who live (at least used to live) down there?

Morning wood HAHA love the name. Only a former Rosedaleian comes up with something like that. To my understanding the people will still live there and the corps. will still maintain the gauge. JA Jones(who is building the lock and dam on the white has made some major alterations new ramp, new road that goes all the way to hwy 1) this will be become Joes' after there done(2 or 3 years). I'm not 100% sure just what i hear.
