Field Trial/Hunt Test regulations proposed by MDWFP
The out of state Hunt Test participant who wants to come run a couple of tests either has to buy multiple 7 day liscences (to "hunt" an already dead tame duck with poppers) or buy an much more expensive seaon long out of state liscence.
How do other states handle this????

This has to stopped. You can hang up having HT if it passes. The 3 HRC clubs in the state could not depend on MS residents for participants. Why would OS want to come here and spend additional $ and they hassel. This could be very bad for our clubs. We don't put on HT to make $ if they pay for thierself you have put on a successful HT. I'll be at that meeting on July 11 at 8:30
My name is Rick Daughtry.......

I have posted at HRC and Holding Blind and The 'fuge asking for letters to fight this.
You can cut and paste this post and put it on any forums y'all go to that I don't know about. It needs to go up at RTF, but I cannot seem to log on there.

The Hunt Test/Field Trial community in Mississippi needs your help! The Mississippi Department of Wildlife has provided a public notice of its intent to issue rules to regulate hunt tests/field trials in Mississippi. Here is the link to a .pdf of the proposed rule:
http://www.mdwfp.com/Level2/Wildlife/pd ... 20dogs.pdf
As the proposed regulation is worded right now, all out-of-state hunt testers (unless exempt) would be required to buy a $30.00 7-day small game hunting license (that is the cheapest one). If the test/trial were on a WMA, then they would need ANOTHER $30.00 MWA permit, for a total of $60.00 in extra dollars, which is about the same as the premium to run 2 days. The out of state Hunt Test participant who wants to come run a couple of tests either has to buy multiple 7 day liscences (to "hunt" an already dead tame duck with poppers) or buy an much more expensive season long out of state license.
To be exempt as a MS resident, you would have to be younger than 16, older than 65, blind, paraplegic, multiple amputee, have a VA total service related disability, or a SSA total disability.
The proposed regulation mentions pen raised quail, but makes no express provision for shooting live flyer ducks, even if pen-raised.
The clubs in Mississippi cannot survive solely on Mississippi residents for hunt tests and field trials. If you run tests in MS, or just support the sport, we need your help fighting this with a letter. Just say "I have run tests in MS, or I would like to run tests in MS, but this proposed rule will make it much less likely for me to support the Mississippi AKC/UKC clubs with my dollars."

it is now an announcement to be refreshed every few days until the date specified.
thanks mark.
and, as an aside, i've been thinking.......does it offend anyone besides me that we are being required (per the written word now) to purchase a HUNTING liscense when we ARE NOT HUNTING ANYTHING?
they've made provisions (to this point) for "live reared" birds, meaning they KNOW we aren't hunting......................then, want money TO HUNT?

I just got off the phone with HRC pres.He is going to look at this in the morn and he will be in touch with UKC also.I have info coming on the #'s of entry's in HRC HT in MS from '92 to date. The state is looking at a way to make $ but if the OOSers don't come they want make any $. The state will loose the economic impact from the participants so they loose all the way around. This is NO GOOD

This is totally crazy. Letter in route and if I can remember I will be down at that meeting. Is there anyway to have a sit down with these folks? I know back after duck season we had a sit down at the office in Brookhaven over the property lines along the MS River.
I just have a problem seeing how this came about. You don't shoot a live round/ AKC doesn't even shoot a real gun. Ducks are usually already dead. Is the bird boy going to have to maintain his field posession of 6 birds.

where and when is the meeting? I may have overlooked the locationa and time.
I'm and OOS'er who is more than willing to ride over and voice an opinion on how it is going to effect your states economy and ya'lls clubs. I would suggest making your local cities that host the hunt test aware of this as well.......someone needs to talk directly with the mayors and let them know their city will lose in excess of $30,000 a year in tourism if this comes to affect
Not to mention throwing away any chance of hosting a National event such as HRC GRand, SRS, AKC Master National, etc.
to be honest it would be extremely hard for someone in my shoes to justify paying another $60 in order to run in MS when I could go to another hunt the same weekend........
