The way I read it, the public hearing was June 6. I think everyone who writes MDWF&P should request another public hearing.
Mark, if we ever get another hearing, maybe you could represent the gun dog forum at DUCKSOUTH, the other forums, HRC and UKC, so as to present a unified position. If you decide and they decide to do that and you need any help, holler.
There were some pieces in the Clarion Ledger this weekend about the coon hunting aspect and how the rule makes no sense and would prohibit coon dog training for all except wealthy landowners (who don't coon hunt). I sent an email to Bobby Cleveland.

Calling names & insulting the people we're asking to change something isn't going to get us very far. Sometimes people make misteaks, and I think this is one. But at least its been caught hopefully in time. Does it make sense they did something on purpose to hurt us,
Wow !! What a concept !! Now, if we could just apply this to every situation.......can you convince your tx buddies of this in my situation?? I KNew you would come around to a forgiving spirit, Travis !!
well, never fear if it passess in MS......all other states will follow suit ......!! Glad to see some real "team" passion on a topic deserving real attention. Looks like we are all going to get to meet after all !! Should I wear a dress
Good thing for me if we aren't successful is that I always get a MS huntin license anyway. Maybe Travis and the boys will be excited to still have one out of stater if this passes, heck ......I will start getting the red carpet treatment then !

On the last page, it says: "Anyone wishing to comment on the above proposed action may do so in writing to the Executive Director, Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, P.O. Box 451, Jackson, MS 39205, no later than July 6, 2007.
I know there is a public meeting in July, I just need to find the date.

I spoke to Dr Sam this morn. He said that after they saw the outcry on MSDUCKS they have realized they had made a mistake and are looking into to it. The proposal was supposed to geared more towards the coon hunters. I told him that if this happens this would kill our club on HT . We (all the HRC clubs )really need the OOSer's for HT. He was aware of West MS HRC and knows about the Mahanna test and does not want anything to hurt the test or anyother test. He said they are all about making $ but don't want to hurt the state and clubs on $ either.I still think we should send in the letters and make a presence at the meeting.
My name is Rick Daughtry.......

Got a response from Eric Clark's office stating I needed to discuss this with the filing dept MDWF in regards to the Economic Impact Statement.

Alright due to the emails you guys pounded me with last night on this issue here is what I know.
First off the Oral meeting was held before the rule Adoption was filed with the Secretary of State and is why many knew nothing about it till it was posted on the Secretary of State Web site. (All the more reason to check both)
Since it was filed after the Oral Meeting I met with Eric Clark to find out what needed to be done to resolve this. He said he would also check to see why it was filed afterwards.
If this is a matter that concerns you it is advised that you write or call Dr. Sam Polles office and state your concerns over not allowing the public to comment orally on this issue. I state orally because they have allowed you time to comment by letter.
Secondly they did not do a Economic Impact Statement on this rule and as most of you that run the trials know it is a economic impact on the businesses that benefit from these bi-annual trails.
Thirdly the Retriever Club has been grouped in with all other trails even though no wild game is used while others in some manner do.
Fourth, is that should you choose to make a comment or write a letter make sure you have your facts together and present them in a professional format that is straight to the point and valid for the organization that you are representing. (Even if it is a personal request)
My suggestion is that you research other states and what their laws are pertaining to Field Trials. What permits they require and any other restrictions such as license requirements.
In about 30 minutes of research I found over a dozen other states that require permits for Trials. That being said it is very likely and well within the Departments authorization to request this new ruling. How it affects the club will be up to how involved the clubs make themselves on this issue. As I said before I have no dog in this fight and have decided to step back and let those that it affects fight the battle. I got involved in this because of my friend Gulfcoast. Outside of that it does not affect me in any manner however I was willing to help until one of our fine MSDucks member started with the typical games that so many on this site love to play.
I have given you more than enough information to curve this rule so that it is not impacting you so harshly. I know in my heart that the department had no intention of hurting this sport and was only doing their job protecting wildlife and the resources where they reside.
Enough said --- Good luck
