Update on proposed Hunt Test/Field Trial Regulation

Postby GulfCoast » Mon Jul 02, 2007 1:28 pm

The next meeting on the MDWFP will be July 11, 2007 at 8:30 am in Jackson, MS. The meeting will take place at the MDWFP offices on Eastover Drive in Jackson, MS.

I have asked for, and should receive notice of today, a spot on the agenda. It looks like several other folks have as well.

There will be an opportunity for "public comments." Anyone who is interested in stopping this should attend, and passionately but POLITELY explain what this regulation will do to hunt tests/field trials in Mississippi.

Thanks!

GC

Per a phone call from Dr. Polles' office this afternoon, they are not going to make any changes to the present policy, but are presently creating another policy that will take care of the retriever communities' concerns, most likely with an exemption (if I followed that right).

I will let you know what else I can find out. Also, I will be at the meeting next Wednesday.

Danny made some good points regarding other events such as beagle trials, coon dog trials etc. There's no way for them to actually hunt pen raised animals exclusively. I could see some changes regarding that, but my comments saying that what we were effectively doing was "shooting a cap gun at previously killed pen raised birds" should exempt us from any need for special licensing. If they are going to require a license...shouldn't there be a "season" it's to be used for??? It would basically be like buying a license for something there isn't even a season for. I'd like to see them try to get a year round duck season.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

I think ........um........once they start putting requirements on the coon dog hunters and trainers.........who do you think is next ?? Need to fight any litigation that is advancing the route to any type of need for a hunting license or permit to train or testing dogs ........ Luckilly wind of this blew the right direction or who knows what kind of rules might have been passed..... what kind of transformations or alterations to current rules are being made that we might not know about ??

GC,
Thanks for staying on top of this unfortunate situation. I dont completely understand the rationale behind the proposed new policy but hopefully you and others alike have opened a few eyes. tony

BINGO WE HAVE A WINNER!!!!!!!

I have a friend that was into the hog catching game....and when the powers that be first started talking about shutting down the catching game I told him then that if it got shut down, althouhgh we are not actually killing wild game the powres that be would start looking into other such games....

although not trying to shut us dwon that would put a thorn in the side of our games

Even though it is going/trying to be revised eventually it will effect us and may even effect some of the ones who particapate in HT/FT and other venues as well
Thanks
Bruce

dogs are only as good as their trainers, and trainers are only as good as their dogs
