Not to insult anyone, but Po Monkey and Hammer, either you guys are really really smart, or so stupid you can't stop arguing over something that none of us can control.    I hadn't figured it out yet. I do know that when it is time it is time and nothing anyone here on earth does or says will stop it. God will decide when it is time for the next "start everything over" to happen. It is that simple to me. How he makes that happen doesn't really matter. Can we change the global warming phenomenon. Not really. We are too used to our way of doing things. All you brainiacs can argue until the end about what we can or can't do, but ultimately you better be thanking God for sending his son Jesus to save you from your sins. Otherwise global warming will just be the tip of the......flame.

27 pages is just a little extreme don't you think? I stopped in the middle of page 1 and had to respond.

Also why is this in the waterfowl hunting forum????????????????

The Atlantic Flyway basically no longer exists...The Mississippi Flyway is obviously undergoing major changes....This phenomenom is true with migratory bird routes all over the world...This could be symptomatic of GW....That is the point and there is either a lot we can do about GW or there are a bunch of really smart, really powerful people telling a lot of big, big lies, starting with the Governor of California and ending with CEOs of most of the Fortune 100 companies and 5000+ scientists from all over th world and the US Senate...

Here is the short list of what you can do: trade your SUV for a more fuel efficient vehicle, put a radiant heat barrier in your attic, put a solar panel on your roof, carpool or ride a bike to work, buy a Flexfuel vehicle (while not perfect, corn ethanol is more GW advantageous than gasoline)

I am amazed by the "we cant do anything about it" from people that are supposed to be "Can Do" IE Americans. With that attitude in WW2, we would all be speaking German. I am especially perplexed by this atittude coming from Mississippians...I was raised without much in the way of money but was taught that if you set your mind to it, you can do anything. I just cant identify with the fatalist attitude of some of you guys...

28 pages have resulted from an attitude of pigheadedness in the face of science and reason. I cant wait to say the biggest "I TOLD YOU SO" I will ever tell anybody when ever more evidence rolls in that GW is a human induced phenomena resulting from GHG emissions. The evidence is already overwhelming yet I guess it will take even more to convince the PMLs of the world. Then again there are still people that dont accept that humanity has walked on the moon so who knows if folks like PML will ever accept the truth abotu GW.

Why Bob, what an ugly thing to say.

Hammer, I had you pegged right --- you ARE indeed the type of guy who loves to say "I told you so". In another 10 years, if we are both alive, it will sure be fun to see.

One of the things that most amazes me about the illogic of you GW naysayers is how you have turned the hubris of Mankind around to fit your opinion on this subject...You say only because of Man's ego could we ever believe that we could influence something as big as the Earth's climate....The irony of your thought process is that it is that very ego that tells Man we can pollute, levee and dam rivers, pave land, clear forests, reproduce ourselves to 6BB people, etc and that the Earth - our biosphere- can handle it...It's like you guys have lived in a 50+ year time warp relative to environmental science...

Implicit in your illogic, is the presumption that MAN has the RIGHT to decide which species survive and which species go extinct...Sort of a MANIFEST DESTINY concept with regards to survival and extinction of species...

I argue just the opposite...I submit that GOD and GOD alone has the right to decide which species survive and which species go extinct and that Man's destruction of Nature is yet another sign of our FALL from God...If Man were living in harmony with God, we would find ways to live that dont threaten species...Clearly we have the knowledge, but we allow GREED (one of the 7 deadly sins) to override that knowledge in favor of profits since it typically costs more to build and live in an environmentally sustainable manner, given the rigged accounting systems we have created that do not reflect the true costs of production...

Apparently, I share this belief with a lot of other Christians as evidenced by http://www.creationcare.org...Whether yall want to accept it or admit it, this is a moral argument...That is why 28 pages, 128 pages or 1028 pages are worth every word...

Your presumption that Man could never influence the climate because it is too big, too complex not only flies in the face of what 1000s of scientists from all over the world are saying, it also defies common sense...Just like GW is scientific fact, it is also scientific fact that the very simple, rudimentary Hiroshima atom bomb burned hotter than the Sun and that 60+ years after the US dropped two atom bombs on Japan, there are enough nuclear bombs (including fission and fusion devices) to literally destroy the Earth...If Man can build a bomb that burns hotter than the Sun and build enough of them destroy the Earth, then Man can certainly affect the climate with air pollution...Again, dont take my word for it, take the word of 1000s of scientists I have referrenced in the preceding pages.

As an environmental scientist myself, I try not to use religion to support scientific discussions. More often than not, you end up tasting leather.

Not to get into a Biblical discussion but what do the words dominion and subdue mean? Since the Bible was written in vastly different language than English, translated into Hebrew, then Greek and then English what is the original wording of that passage and what are the alternative translations?

And, to keep a long story short, if Jesus was the fulillment of the prophesy of the Old Testament as I believe He was, then all Old Testament scripture has to be filtered through the lens of Jesus and the Holy Word of the New Testament. Subject your apparent interpretation of that Bible verus to the "What Would Jesus Do?" test and I think you will come up with a different perspective based on the radical, revolutionary nature of His teachings.

Above all else, dont take my word for it. Go to http://www.creationcare.org and see what professional, full time religious leaders- not environmentalists but religious leaders- have to say about this subject.

Incidentally, when we were fighting for the right to keep hunting on the NWRs during the early years of the Clinton Administration (remember Mollie Beatty?) we used the very passage you have quoted to mean STEWARDSHIP in the sense of Aldo Leopold. Hunting is clearly part of STEWARDSHIP. Extinction is clearly not. Hunters better wake up to the important role they can and SHOULD play in leading teh environmental movement or our relevance as hunters in the cylce of life will be taken from us. That is one of my primary objectives in this thread. I have confirmed that at least as far as MSDUCKS is concerned, hunters are basically clueless abotu the most important environmental issue of our time and many related issues.

Finally, I question your judgement not to use religion in scientific discussion. There is no doubt in my mind and those of some leading scientists that science is confirming many religious truths. Dont get me wrong- I dont NEED science to confirm my FAITH. I have seen the POWER of the Holy Spirit, of the Risen Son and of God the Father in my own life, with my own eyes. But I think it is neat that science is waking up to the bigger truths and finding ways to confirm them.

For example, brain science has recently confirmed that loving your neighbor as yourself is a fundamental human instinct, yet we learn how NOT to love our neighbor as ourselves to the point that we kill them based on skin color, religion, angle they wear their hat, etc...Humans are far and away the most murderous animal on the planet (in terms of intentionally killing their own species). That is learned behavior- not innate behavior. Learned from a world that values things that are not of GOD but are of SATAN. It all goes back to the apple and the Fall and I dont think many of the 6BB peoplel on Earth contemplate nor appreciate just how pervasive and sinister and sneaky are the forces of Evil.

Many, many aspects of modern life can be rationalized in the name of "THE ECONOMY" and "ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT". I dont believe GOD gives a tinkers damn about either one of those beyond the minimal level sufficient for harmonious human relations so His children can get about the ultimately important business of GETTING BACK TO THE GARDEN. We have fallen so far, so fast...In only 2000 years, we have gone from killing our Lord, our Savior, our Redeemer, to the lunacy of atomic annilihation, global warming, species extinction and the other facets of modern life...

In a very real sense, I believe MANKIND is way ahead of himself. If you think about the difference in life in 1900 versus 2000, it is absolutely mindboggling. Like spoiled children, we cant handle our abundance. GW is just one of many symptoms that we need to slow down, regroup and focus on what is important- our relationship with God, with our fellow man, with our Earth. Or we can keep divorcing at rates of 50%+, wallowing in debt (70% of American households have no net worth), killing each other, drinking and drugging, dying from cancer and heart disease, etc.

Mabye this quote will put it into context for you:

I SIMPLY ARGUE THAT THE CROSS BE RAISED AGAIN AT THE CENTER OF THE MARKETPLACE AS WELL AS ON THE STEEPLE OF THE CHURCH. I AM RECOVERING THE CLAIM THAT JESUS DID NOT DIE IN A CATHEDRAL BETWEEN TWO CANDLES BUT ON A CROSS BETWEEN TWO THIEVES ON THE TOWN GARBAGE HEAP, ON A CROSSROADS SO COSMOPOLITAN THAT THEY HAD TO WRITE HIS TITLE IN HEBREW AND LATIN AND GREEK, AT THE KIND OF PLACE WHERE CYNICS TALK SMUT AND THIEVES CURSE AND SOLDIERS GAMBLE, BECAUSE THAT IS WHERE HE DIED AND WHAT HE DIED ABOUT. AND THAT IS WHERE CHURCHMEN SHOULD BE AND WHAT CHURCHMEN SHOULD BE ABOUT.

I dont know who came up with this but I support every word of it. GOD is not about just Sunday morning. GOD is about everythign and everythign is about GOD, including science. Perhaps you are being called to eat some leather?

If this is the logic you want to use, then you must be willing to apply it to the entire Bilble not just this verse. By your logic, what does any of it mean.

Like you, I don't need science to confirm my faith. That's precisely the reason I'm reluctant to use my faith to defend my science. For every verse you find to defend your argument, someone can find another to contradict it. Everyone interprets the word of God differently.

I agree with you in the sense of Scripture on a verse by verse basis...Subject to interpretation, translation, etc...but taken as a whole, the precepts of Christianity are not debatable and I dont think you have to check them at the door when you put on your science hat.

"A contemporary has said, not unjustly, that in this materialistic age of ours the serious scientific workers are the only profoundly religious people. "

Albert Einstein, 1930

In the 76 years since Einstein's statement, astrophysicists in particular have uncovered incredibly elaborate relationships in the cosmos that defy all scientific explanation. These scientists are increasingly coming to the realization that random, chaotic events could not possibly have created what is continually discovered to be far beyond our wildest imaginations. In other words, the null hypothesis is that there is a God until someone proves otherwise, not that there is no God until someone proves there is.

I personally do not subscribe to a literal, word for word interpretation of Scripture. I take a more mystical view that the words themselves- in and of themselves- have power and that I do not have to apply my logical brain to them, I do not have to fully understand them, to benefit from them. The simple act of reading the words triggers chemical reactions which lead to electrochemcial reactions that are all GOOD.

When read from this perspective, these Holy words calm your mind and there- in the stillness of your mind- channels are open to the GOD program that is in your heart until you learn to override it with hate and pride and lust and envy and greed adn the other deadly sins. It is hard to walk with GOD or talk with GOD when your mind is full of what car to buy, which country club to belong to, obsessions with the material, desires of the flesh...

It is the pursuit of the desires of the flesh that have gotten us in the GW jam in the first place so there in a few words is a full circle of how GW and RELIGION are intractably entwined. And in case you havent figured it out by now, why I have stuck with this thread until the inevitable opportunity to show these cards appeared.

The predominant religion of today is MATERIALISM, worship of the almighty dollar and of possessions, the lust for power and wealth so the folks who buy into this religion can be distracted by the desire to get more dollars and more possessions. A very clever, very evil sinsiter plot by the fallen angel. GW is a sympton of the religion of MATERIALISM. As is the extinction of species and virtually all of the other environmental problems facing our generation and that of our children. The choice is ours. Bite the apple or dont. Same as it ever was.

You youngsters dont have the perspective to realize how much trouble this country is in so you dont understand the significance of GW not only as an environmental issue nor the significance of how the science has played out in the US political system and what that has revealed about our political system. In a nutshell let me sum it up in one word: CORRUPTION.

The big money lined up to deny the scientific reality to a degree never before seen in world history and didnt give a tinkers darn about the threat to national security, human health and welfare, etc posed by this issue. They were in it for the money and the power and to heck with the rest of us. Only when the science revealed that the situation is far worse than anyone thought even 5 years ago, did the veil of denial start to tear and CEOs, GOVERNORS, SENATORS, CONGRESSMEN, ETC begin to admit the reality and begin to mobilize. Yet, there are millions of Americans like PML and a majority of MSDers who are still invested in the DENIAL STAGE despite all scientific fact. They still believe this is some sort of power grab by radical environmentalists to reshape the world stage. How ridiculous.

The truth is that it will not matter what the naysayers think about GW. We all will pay carbon taxes, be forced to buy more fuel efficient cars, subsidize more nuclear power plants. Our gasoline will cost more, our electricity will cost more, etc. You can continue to deny the truth or you can accept it and figure out how to benefit from it.
