To Hunt or Not to Hunt?

I do not assume to know half as much about ducking as most of you here, but I thought I'd share the experience we had this past weekend with you. Saturday morning everything was frozen solid except for a few fish ponds and the river next to the property we were hunting. We didn't even see a duck's address that morning. Started riding around and found hundreds of mallards and gadwalls sitting on the river. The ducks started getting up off the river as we drove by. By 11 o'clock we were back at the field blind and the ducks were already in the hole. That afternoon the ducks came to the field continuously. Had a great hunt!
The next morning, conditions were the same, so we slept in. Got up about 10 a.m. and went to the blind. Started seeing ducks about 12. Another great hunt!! We even killed 5 geese. Two day total = 5 gads, 2 woodies, 1 widgeon, 22 mallards, and 5 geese.

True duckhunters don't let weather interfere with plans. Been hunting 9 of the last 10 days. Limits everyday and back on tractor by 9 to 10 a.m. work till dark then get up and do it again. One day we didn't go had to fix equipment. Been great hunting lately. I started into my 6th carton of shells this season this morning. Good luck tomorrow on the last hoorah! Got to go work the rest of the day.

What you doing on that tractor this time of year ? other than puttin out hay ? glad you have had success....

Sounds like he's gotta make money to pay for that pallet of shells he shot Everybody is in the field here this week.

I agree, hunt the birds regardless of weather.

We hunted this morning. found out that one our hen decoys had been shot at one time or another and was taking on water. this is how we spent the day. one fella went about 100 yards away from me and another buddy ON TOP of the ice. and we took turns sliding the decoy back and forth. Kinda like bowling/ice hockey all in one. we skated around all over the place chasing that stupid decoy. Oh well we had to do something to pass the time cause the ducks sure werent doing anything this morning. The ice was so thick that it took all 3 of us simultaneously jumping up and down on the ice to finally break through it. The hole should have looked pretty natural because there wasn't a trail in the ice from the shore to the hole we made because we walked on the ice to the place we decided to make the hole.

we went saturday morning and had a good hunt. We actually had mallards work to the call and the dekes. not a whole lot of em but eough to make it well worth the effort. heard very little shooting and saw no high fliers. It made a nice ending for our season. My buddy even passed on the mercs we had blast into the dekes. our old spot was froze up tight but we were lucky enough to find a creek with running water. As for weather conditions, it don't matter to us, we are going to be out there if the season is open. we went once last year when they had just canceled tornado warnings for us. we just try to maintain a positive attitude. we have found out that you never know what these crazy things are gonna do. we have killed mostly mallards and woodies this year. hardly any gads. a few years back we had all gads, hardly any mallards and woodies. by the way we hunt public land in Tate county.
