Posion Ivy
Posion Ivy
Well you guessed it I am sure I have posion ivy. I usually get a steroid shot since I am severally allergic to it. The shot did not do the trick this time as I still have it on my arms. I can get within ten feet of this stuff and I catch it. I have been using alcohol to dry it up. Does anyone have any other suggestions. I have tried all kinds of ointments and creams besides the shot rubbing alcohol works the best.
Tell me about it....
I couldn't get to sleep until 4:30 this morning b/c i was
scratching my arms so much. I went to the DR yesterday morning
and got a steroid shot....helped a little, but still kind of itching today.
I have never ever ever gotten poison ivy.... I used to show off in
front of my friends and rub it on my face to show them it didn't bother
me. Well i won't be doing that anymore. This stuff is terrible. I would
classify my case as moderate to mild, but i couldn't imagine getting it all
over my body...wow..!!
I have used EVERYTHING on the shelf at Walgreens, and even some homemade stuff. I do not think there is an easy form of relief out there.
The prescription cream i got from the dr. (along with the shot) seemed
to make it worse. So i went back to the over the counter stuff.
Good Luck.
Oh and i know i'm rambling, but i originally got the poison ivy last sunday (a week and a half ago) and it didn't get bad until this past sunday. It seemed to spread like crazy.

The single most effective way i have found is to rub PVC cleaner on the affected area. If you have scratched it, it will burn like a SOB!!
But it will clear that stuff right up.
old plumbers trick right there.

I scratch mine with a knife and it will start oozing stuff out, I will then keep scratching it until I am satisfied even if it starts bleeding, and then I will pour the alcohol to it. Make sure the knife is clean and keep pouring the alcohol to it and it will scab over. Note that when you pour the alcohol to it you better man up cause it stings.

ASK BLACKWATER, HE LOVES THE STUFF
I have not found anything that will help it on me, the shot will only help it out on me if it is on my face. I have just learned to let it run its course. But now every time I think I have been exposed (which is about every time I go in the woods) I wash down real good with dawn dish washing detergent and original white gojo. It is supposed to break down the oils on the skin and it seems to help.

Benedril gel helps. However, I'd wash the rash real good with hot soapy water to get the blisters popped. Then pat the area dry and apply the benedril as liberally as you want. It will dry which helps keep the rash from spreading. And since the drainage is gone for a while, it won't itch too bad.
Nobody owes you anything.
