License for Youth Weekend

Postby Unlucky Ducky » Wed Jan 29, 2003 9:45 pm

Anyone know the laws pertaining to the youth weekend hunts?
This is my first year to be able to take some nephews hunting on the youth weekend hunts, so I got a few questions and hope someone can help. What is the age cut-off, 15 or 16? What if they have a license from another state, will that license suffice or must they have a Ms license? What if they do not have a license at all.

Someone told me that if they were 16 or under they were legal to hunt and did not even need a license, which I find hard to believe.

I called the MDWFP office today and asked and was told they would check and get back with me, don't think I got the right person, but I never heard back. I'm gonna get the right person tomorrow, but thought somebody here might know. I certainly don't want to take any young ones out this weekend and turn them into outlaws, not now or ever.

Any help would be appreciated.
Don't be stupid, you idiot.

I am not sure about the age limit but I would think that it would follow along with the guidlines for the youth deer hunting. I dont see why they would need a license but stamps may be needed. I dont know. Good question.

I heard the adult could hunt too. Hmmm Guess I better let the others know cause the guys I hunt with have always taken birds with the kids on youth hunts. Wouldn't getting a ticket be a good example for the kids.

Adults cannot hunt, Kids are not required to have a license or a stamp. The adult is not required to have a license or stamp.

12-16 required to have hunter ed course to hunt ms(however not sure if it applies to the youth hunts though) i'm in process of finding that out also and will advise
- no stamps or lic are needed

- if they are under 12 they have to be with licensed adult but don't
have to have hunter ed class or stamps
- go to ms dept of wildlife web site for more info
