Draw hunts in MS

Sportsman, it is not us that is skyrocketing the # of apps for drawn hunts. I was talking to some game warden's and he said there is astronomical amount of PETA people that put their names in the drawings. One person may fill out apps for his entire family and all their friends. That is why when you show up for a drawn hunt and there are supposed be 20 hunting permits there that day you only have 8 or 10 show!! THAT is our main problem.

PETA does the exact same thing to limited tundra swan tags in NC, making it increasingly difficult to get drawn.

what stinks is that the mdwfp hasn't figured out to apply for the DRAWS we should all have a valid hunting license not just ss#,, if the PETA heads had to pay to play it would decrease the problem

Got a buddy that is a wildlife biologist and he says they can't make it where the PETA folks can't sign up. That's crazy, there has to be a way.

Thank you for your concern for our sport of hunting. At this time, the MDWFP does not require one to purchase a hunting license before applying for a draw hunt. To our knowledge, we do not have any evidence that organizations such as PETA are taking away draw hunt oppurtunity from hunters in Mississippi.

The MDWFP values your input and will take your statements into concideration. Please let us know if you have evidence that the situation is taking place with our draw hunts.

It has come to my attention that members of groups such as PETA are applying for draw hunts with no intention of ever going. They are doing this so if they get drawn for the hunt, they are taking the spot from a legitimate hunter.

By requiring a valid hunting license, it will deter these people from applying, and if they do still go through with it, they will have donated money to the state which is much needed.

Let em sign up, but those fockers better buy a license!! EVERYONE on here needs to send in a comment that people entering a draw hunts need to have a valid hunting license #. That should put a stop to it, or at least make a little more money for the DWFP!!!! Currently all one person needs a list of names address's and phone numbers, one person could send in 100 apps. Not if they don't purchase a license!!! But if they all do, tha's about 1300 bucks for the Department!!!

I guess we need to be more clear to Chris McDonald we know they don't require a valid license--BUT why not??? a little security for us and more money for the mdwfp--just 1 more set of blocks to fill in
