There ain't but one type of snake in my eyes.....a chicken snake, because I'm scared/chicken of all of 'em, scared as hell of any of 'em. Like others have said, the only good snake is a dead snake.
I just started turkey hunting within the last 2 yrs and was warned to be extremely careful in the woods during the spring. I hunt a lot by myself, some of you more experience guys give me some advice/tips on what to do if I take a hit, other than kiss my @$$ good-bye. How much time would somebody have on average before they get in real trouble with symptons? What temporary measure should I take until I can get out of the woods? I have general knowledge, but experience of others is the best teacher.

Well, the first thing that I would do is kill that snake. I hate snakes just as much, if not more than anybody. The only thing that is good about a snake is that they make good targets in the spring. I use a 22 so if there are two or three close i can kill all of them without spooking the others. You can play great jokes on folks with these dead critters if you can get them, but be careful cause dead snakes can still bite if you don't shoot'em in the head.

One day last summer when daddy and I were working on the place and getting ready to drop seeds in the ground, we noticed there were a lot of those stump tailed 'ol Mr. no shoulders laying around. We had brought the little .410 snake charmer "just in case". Huh, ended up killing 41 in a couple hours that afternoon and just dang near everyone of 'em was a cottonmouth...big'uns too. Decided there were on average about 3-4 an acre and damn, they were the hard-headedest mean, arrogant and nasty lookin sob's...SHEESH! gettin cold chills thinking about it! Even cold steel would just barely cut some of em up.

yea, your right it does deserve a good ol'country ass woopin, but the trick is to be slick. let 'em cuss you to your face about that sorry SOB who put it there and just don't say a word. it's usually safe to tell 'em about 6 months later. just make sure they're not still sore about it.
