Bird hunting

Texas should be awesome this year with all of the rain. I have a buddy that has a lease there every year we hunt on, one of the other guys on that lease called and said he saw 29 coveys in a 90 minute ride on some of the roads on the place. Wonder how many were in the mesquite? Can't wait till Oct 27 for the opener in TX.

Look at that scenery in the background, it seems the farther north and west you go, the better the scenery gets. I feel so priviledged to travel somewhere every year to hunt upland birds. It is as much for the scenery and experience as it is for the birds. I swear I'll move up there and stay one day. Nice pic Josey.

I rode my bike up to Sturgis, SD this year and like you said Hawkeye the scenery is unbelievable and once you get away from Rapid City there is not alot of people. Beautiful place indeed. Wish I was there hunting this AM.

Should have posted that were comin to the rally..I live on SD Hwy 44 near Johnson Siding..about a million bikers ride that highway during the rally.

The Black Hills of SD are full of merriams turkeys..the grassland east of the BH have some pretty decent sharptail grouse hunting..the farther east you go the better the ringneck pheasant numbers get..also its not uncommon to run into a few gray partridge..

The downside is the duck hunting is not very good in this part of the state..you have to drive about 3 to 4 hours to get into the true pot hole country (which when you think about aint all that bad).

I went to Montana back in April, a place I've always wanted to go. Needless to say, I will be going back. All four directions around you have a small mountain range in the scenery, and there is huntable game everywhere you look. We did some gopher shooting up there, guys, you can shoot gophers all day long. There are actually landowners that will PAY YOU to shoot them. Plenty of pheasants, huns, few sharptails, plenty of ducks and geese, mule deer, whitetails, antelope, elk, turkeys, the list goes on. Truly a hunter's paradise.
