The thing I don't like about Nutt is that he changed coordinators about as often as coach O and there always seemed to be some kind of controversy going on. Trouble seems to follow him. He always had enough talent to overcome the instability. He will not have that kind of talent at Ole Miss. The one thing that Ole Miss needs right now is stability and Nutt is not the coach to do that. Who will be his coordinators?

I think he is the best coach they have had in 25 years, excluding Tubby. He could never get Arky over the hump and win the SEC outright, but he is a good coach nevertheless.

He has been hired early enough to get a leg up on recruiting as well. He can evaluate what is in place currently, the commitments they have and the needs going forward. I suppose he can probably get a commitment or two away from Arky to follow him to Ole Miss and he has well established recruiting roots in Arky.

Of course, the Ole Miss faithfull will have to live with the fact that he just left his "dream job" and the fact that they have settled on Arky's reject but if he turns them around, I don't think they will care.

Bottomline is that he is a vast improvement over possibly the worst SEC hire in fifty years and will turn Ole Miss, IMHO, into a bowl eligible team every year that will make a run at the SEC West every two or three years.

It's a good hire for Ole Miss. Nutt is an emotional rah rah kind of coach. The type coach the Ole Miss players and fans can rally around. He did a decent job at Arkansas over his ten year tenure but at Arkansas he had no competition when it comes to recruiting in his state. At Ole Miss, he will not get all of the good recruits in Mississippi by default like he did in Arkansas. He will have to contend with Miss. State, Southern Miss., Alabama and others.
I honestly think Nutt is a good hire for Ole Miss but I don't think he will be able to cherry pick the top recruits out of the state of Mississippi like he did at Arkansas. Only time will tell.

Just for discussion sake...Will the same type of performance be acceptable to the Ole Miss folks?...a good coach that cant get over the hump? I think it is a legitimate question when you look at coaches like Cut and Bower?

Time will tell

Considering we have competed for the West division once in the last decade. He's a good start!

If he can consistently win 7 to 9 games, I think Nutt can stay in Oxford for the next 20 years. Correct me if I am wrong, but I really don't get the sense that Ole Miss has a national title mindset. If they can win the West once every five years and compete for it one in three, I think Ole Miss will be satisfied. Whereas, Florida and Ohio State expect to win or be in the picture for the national title every year. Bama expects it. LSU to a certain degree expects to be in the SEC championship picture every year with a shot at the NC too, although LSU has had enough lean years as of late to be pessimistic as well. My point being, 7 to 9 wins per season is acceptable at Ole Miss, State, probably South Carolina, certainly Vandy and UK. Right now, that is not enough at other schools. Arky just proved that.

While football is no doubt an obsessions for many (~50%) of Ole Miss fans, the social aspect of football in Oxford is what drives the local economy and as a result the demands. If they have a winning program in place, people show up for games and by in large have their expectations met. I honestly think the outlook of the entire state is better when Ole Miss is winning, but I don't think that means winning an SEC title or national title.

The condo craze in Oxford had it seeds planted by Eli and competing for the West. If Nutt can get Ole Miss back to that atmosphere, whether he wins the SEC or not, I think most of the people will be satisfied...our at least enough to keep him in place.
