It is just unfair when you pay state taxes here in Mississippi, and someone from another state gets a hunting opportunity you don't get.

I think that all the states could learn a lesson from what Missouri has done. Their sales taxes on sporting items goes directly to their DNR, not through the legislature where it can be "diluted" (or diverted) for other projects. This is not a new tax and it is the most fair for all (Residents and OOS).

Its no accident that harvest numbers in MO have been rising, they spend the new tax dollars on habitat.

i see some people saying we a being hypocrits sp? by going out of state hunting or fishing or whatever it may be. but as for myself, i know when i go out of state fishing i will get a guide( even though i only go once or twice a year) instead of trying to go and barge in on someones lil public honey hole like everyone is starting to do in mississippi. jmo

OOS gets 10 days to hunt in South Dakota..gotta luv it!!..and Waterfowl license is issued by lottery (even better)..maybe Mississippi should implement something similar.

Previously I had posted the question about wheather or not State WMA's recieve any federal funding. Since I don't know and am too lazy to do the research myself I was hoping for a response from the more educated individuals on this board. The reason being, is that I feel Mississippi residents should be the only ones allowed to hunt State WMA's if we are the only ones paying taxes on the land. If those WMA's recieve any federal funding at all, I have no problem with oos hunting them if they have taxes paying for them as well.

In IL WMAs receive Fed. funding but the majority is state $$ and now since we're broke a lot comes from private donations and clubs that guys establish in the name of the WMAs.
But when OOS come they buy gas, groceries, hotels etc...that all have state tax dollars tied to them that indirectly will help the WMAs.
IMO if you banned OOS from WMAs you would just end up with the same in staters hunting with less competition which I guess sounds good but doesn't seem right.
Especially when you talk migratory birds, $#!+ I guess since they come from Canada Canadians could claim no one else should be allowed to hunt them no matter where they land since they fund more to help them than anyone else.
In the end there just isn't enough free places no matter where you live or where you go.
I'm guilty I own 60 acres of excellant deer ground in central IL I'm really thinking of leasing to OOS to make some extra money. It is simply supply and demand if there is a market making money always wins. The state is no different. I think all in all they do a good job trying to find the tilt point of what OOS will pay for hunting licenses to limit OOS but not eliminate them.

This is not at all directed to you as a shot. However what happens when you come from out of state to fish with a guide and he brings you to my honey hole to fish?

What's the difference between someone hunting public without a guide or with one that guides on public? I would bet that 100% of fishing with guides is done on public land, however I suppose I could be wrong.

well if i am coming in on your honey hole once or twice a year i am sorry. it sure as hell is not as bad as the amount of days OOsers spend on the wma areas in Mississippi
