Buddy is a 12 yr. old half-breed black Lab/ blue-tongued Chow. Weighs in at 124 lbs., and gentle as a lamb, until a stranger arrives in the driveway. The electricity meter-reader man has read my electric meter from the roof of his pickup for the past 12 years.
Buddy's an excellent retriever on dead cats, tennis shoes, and rats.
I don't think he's ever seen a dead duck or goose, though; at least not any from my gun.
He's also, an accomplished killer of ALL snakes. He's worth his weight in gold for all these reasons.

I have two duck hunting buddies that are my sons. My first dog is a chocolate male named "Hunter" and he is five years old. He is about 65 lbs and a stick of dynomite. He once broke ice on a lake about 1 inch thick for my buddies first duck on a thirty yard ret. He is fast and PERSERVERANCE when it comes to getting Daddy his duck! He has his senior AKC title and is working on his MASTER. Charlie Moody is currently working with him while I attend Law School.
My second son is pick of "Hunter's" first litter he sired. His name is "BEAR"and he is two years old. He is black and solid at 78 lbs! He is all muscle and not Scared to run through anything to get Daddy his duck. He is Mr. Photogentic. He has been photographed for a Eukanuba Calander while in Memphis at the DU show. His head is a little over 6 inches wide BETWEEN the ears. He is calm and very controlable, but LOOK OUT WHEN YOU CALL HIS NAME! He loves to hunt and probrably will get to Master hunter quicker than his Dad. "Bear" has his AKC Junior Title and is working on his Senior title.
These are my boys and they are always looking for dates! My stud fee is whatever you sell my pick of the litter for. I let their prodigy speak for them. "Hunter" has had his hips cert. But I have not had time to do "Bear" yet. Maybe this summer. He should be fine looking at his Sire and Dam.

My Black lab "Buffy" is 4 1/2 years old. Finished trained by Tom Hamilton of Saucier Ms. She tops the scales at about 96 pounds at the lightest right after season, and usually gets to around 105 sitting around the house the rest of the year. She's tuff as nails and will bust what-ever ice is necessary to get to a retrieve. She's great company and walks around the block with my wife every night for exersize. We do some long blinds in the lake a few times a week just to keep her mind on whats just over the horizon...

I would not recomend having 2 dogs as I have found they are more than twice the trouble of one dog. I would also never recomend selecting a dog based on color. Always go with breeding.

Bear
My hunting buddy. Belle is a 3 yr. old black female that weighs app. 55 pounds. I like 'em small. 
She doesn't come from a fancy stock and I got her for free but she is one fine duck getter. I saw a lot of potential in her so I sent her to a trainer (dukdawgs in Selmer,TN) at 6 months of age then I started training her once she got home...I think they had her for six months. Great people and they know their stuff! She is extremely loyal and has tremendous drive...I have enjoyed every retrieve she ever made...she went after her first snow goose this past year...I think the goose was bigger than her. She drug it app. 50 yards with the goose fighting the whole way. It was great! Love them duck dawgs!

My Duke is a 2 1/2 yr. old chocolate and was a gift from my wife and daughter. Don't know much about his pedigree except his dam was black and had some HRC points from La. His sire was brown. (?) He's not fancy but he's within my budget. His training is limited to mine. He started out on crows and starlings, went to divers and woodies from a boat last year, and got his first greenhead in flooded woods last year also. This year he almost melted down in the dove field. He could get his marks but his blinds were tough in the deep grass. Like he couldn't use his nose in the heat and with the hassling. This year he worked the ice in the woods like a champ. He got run over at a boat launch last year...had tire tread marks on his head for awhile. This year he fell off the 4 wheeeler and broke his tail. He wags it fine now, just got a little knot in it. It never stopped him, just didn't like to sit for a while. The wife says I'm going to kill him. I say naw, he's just like me...one tough hard working dog...Rough....Ruff! 
'Sprig' is a 7-year-old Golden Retriever ('Swamp Collie') that is "All business" when she's hunting. ["Don't mess with me........Don't even pet me........just leave me alone .....I'm hunting!" (I might try a little piece o' that cake if it were to get within reach, though)]
She knows her 'spot' in the boat and hunts hard, up until the guns go back in the case. She weighs 62 pounds and doesn't like black dogs................'doesn't matter how big they are, either. She'd rather jump a 90-pound black dog than a 15-pound 'foo-foo'.......one of our friends called her a long-haired piranha. There can be a boat, motoring in the dark at 300yds.....and if there's a black dog in there, she starts growling.......'don't know how she knows. Bad vibes, I guess.
'Only thing she hates worse than black dogs is nutrias......and will 'zone-out' if one gets too close to the boat.........'had a slight seizure last year cause she was 'locked-in' on a nutria at 25yds for over an hour. 'Front legs just locked-up, STIFF! Oh, she hates'em!
'Picked-up a full-grown beaver by the back o' the neck, swingin' it side-to-side, tryin' to snap it's neck, one morning. We got her to leave it alone when shooting time rolled around. But as soon as we were done and putting the guns up, she re-directed her focus to the spot she last saw the beaver.
A 'hunting FOOL'.......we affectionately nicknamed her 'Piglet'.......goes through weeds better than a go-devil and will go out of her way to find something 3-days DEAD to roll in.
It's not uncommon to find her 'belly-up' on the down comforter after a long day or a romp in the mud.
What?......well, Hell Yeah she sleeps in the bed!
When my wife and 'Sprig' moved to Louisiana during duck season (2 years ago), I would visit them on the weekends. I have to admit it was a little unsettling when 'Sprig' growled at me cause I was takin'-up too much of the bed.
You have to admire her spunk!.....even if it IS bad manners.
My wife trained 'Sprig'....she's her dog. You know, there's a lot of truth to the thing about dogs taking-on their handlers personality. These girls are both hard-headed and exremely intense about duck hunting.

my Lacey dog is a 2.5 yr old black female. However there was no accurate weight category for her, she varies from 48-53 lbs, depending upon time of year, she has so much energy that keeping weight on her is the challenge. Saying she likes to go would be an understatement. She has hunted 2 seasons, picked up 274 geese and 679 ducks. We also run the hunt test games and have an HR and one pass from a SH wich I will wait until the fall for.

My "son" varies between a lean 84 lbs and a stocky 92 lbs. Drake is a handsome black lab of twenty-six months with a very good temperament - but don't mess with his duck or his dummy or you'll get on his bad side. If you give him a treat, he'll love you for life. He hogs the majority of the bed and he puts on the best show in front of the ladies. He'd rather die than go to Ole Miss. Just ask him and he'll be glad to show you!!!

76 lbs. 1year and 4 months. She retrieved around 200 ducks this past year and hunted every day with me. (26) days.
Lu is very mild mannered, and doesn't get overly anxious or hyper before or during the hunt. She has a good nose, but there are only a few minor details I need to work on in the off season (if I can get off my ass and do it!). The most obvious is her marking my spot. Alot of times I'll put my hand in front of her and she won't go straight as I'd like. But, she usually will turn once she is out about 30 yards when I get her attention.
She is a great house pet. Very sweet. She has long legs and can hit a serious stride on dry ground. She could use a few punds on her before next season, but we'll work on that in the fall.
This is the first dog I have ever trained by myself completely and been satisfied with the results. I can only assume (and hope) she will get better. I couldnt have asked more from her last season as she only turned one on Dec 15th.
