Ft Smith, Ak Duck Hunting

Postby billragon1 » Wed Jan 16, 2008 6:39 am

My son's SEAL Troop is at Ft Chafee doing land warfare training. There are a couple of guy's that like to Duck Hunt. Is there any guides in the area or any public hunting they can get to? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Bill,

I live in Ft. Smith. There are some public walk in place on the north side of the river managed by AGF called Frog Bayou and Ozark. Parts of the river on that side can be obtained by foot, otherwise you need a boat.

Unfortunately, I'm out last couple of weeks of the season. I know some of the Wackenhut boys located at Chaffee duck hunt here.

If they will buy an OK license, PM me and I'll get you some info.

I am sure they will do what it takes. My son will be deploying to parts unknown in October. So he would really enjoy it.

It'd be pretty humbling sharing a blind with a few SEALS.

My son is a great duck hunter and good caller. A real class guy. He guided for Charles Snapp in Walnut ridge before he went to the Naval Accademy.
He will be a gracious and pleasent huning guest or his Dad will take care him.

If he has guided for Snapp then he must know what he is doing. Snapp is a member on here and gets on from time to time, maybe he will see this as he might no some public places up there

I just talked with my son. He is free this afternoon and Sunday. He would like any info that he can find. He would be willing to walk in to a WMA or anything to shoot some birds. He only has this weekend and next to hunt. He will be deploying in October for the "SANDBOX". So he would love and I would appreciate anyone's generosity.

Bill, unfortunatley I don't know anything about the area in question. Where are ya'll from with those 731 phone #'s? I grew up in McKenzie and just wondered. Hope your son and his buddies have some good hunts. GOD BLESS him and all his fellow soldiers!

We are from Jackson, Tn. Hunted in both Ark and Ms when both my boys were growing up. Now since they are gone haven't been in a club in four years. The addiction is coming back strong so I will try to join a club next year. Thanks,

My little brother lives in Jackson now. He'll be getting married in June so I don't see much of him anymore. We both went to Lambuth U. Sort of funny to cross paths with a fellow West Tennesseean on an ole MS duck hunting site. Once again, hope you son and his buddies have a/some great hunts and GOD BLESS em for what they do.

We have never hinted much in Tn. We were in a club around Crowder when my sons were young. So this is and will always be special. I have been using a guide in that area the last few years. Where do you hunt?

All over the Mid South. I have hunted in MS in the past but did not do any hunting there this year. I hunt on the TN River near New Johnsonville (shoot a lot of gads) until the ducks leave due to pressure. Hunt near Wynne, AR and hunt with some buddies in Springville Bottoms (near Big Sandy, TN) and just off of Reelfoot Lake in a leased field. Maybe we can get together next year for a hunt or two. I'll shoot ya a pm.
