Great Saturday snow hunt with the Dad

Postby pondman » Sun Jan 20, 2008 4:09 pm

Dad and I hunted on Saturday in the snow. My first time to duck hunt while it was actually snowing. Hunted plenty of time with snow and ice on the ground but never had to the chance to work ducks down through the snow. We didn't kill limits but it was not about that. Spent a great morning the man I admire most. For the hole we hunted shooting was very good and if I had not gotten greedy and passed up some easy shots at mallards while trying to land a much bigger group we would have had a higher body count. Sharing a tree, drinking coffee, watching it snow and killing a few ducks. Could not have asked for a beter morning.

Dad with a few of the fallen (no flash but blurry).

With flash but an artifical lighting look.

Maybe one day I'll get to do it again.

I'll bet the only person who could have possibly enjoyed it more than you was your Dad.

It doesn't get any better.

Second picture worth framing!

congrats to you both, one day I'm going to light the fire back in my dad. As of now he would rather sit in a deer stand. ITs ok though he tells me I'm crazy all the time and I just smile and say yes daddy I know

Well put. I think the only reason he went was because he had been seeing a few ducks and he knew I would be decoy boy, duck caller, fetcher, cleaner, ect.

Thanks for all the kind words. I am very fortuante that my father shared time with me in the field and passed on his love for hunting. I will always be appreciative and gratefully for the gift.

Yeah, but remember--the "condo" was probably only 50-75 yards away. He could have run back to it and warmed up in the solar-power, super- comfy, heated-massaging recliner that's probably in there and watched his battery TV. Just wait until he gets electricity hard-wired to it! You're on top of that, right, Rob?

Yeah I'm on top of it, :? No reason to not be comfortable. I mean come on. Cold, wet???

I'm proud of him. He hung in like a champ. The only time he got mad was when I got greedy and we didn't shoot the 6 mallards in front of us becasue the bigger group over us was goind go to come on the next pass.... yeah they left and we didn't get a shot. He was a little upset about that.
