I read the report on telchek. It said the results were "disappointing". Maybe they'll drop the whole lame idea. It's just another hoop for hunters to have to jump thru and another opportunity to collect some fines.

But it seems they need some way to monitor the deer/turkey kills. You got a better idea? Some northen states make you tag the animal before you even move it, then take it directly to a check station.

Thanks Scott for the information.

Robinhood, maybe if the deer population was low and dwindling fast the kill count might be vital. But, we've been killing does like mad in recent years and the #s are still high if not rising.

Another thing, if this regulation isn't merely more red tape then don't put a penalty/fine for failure to report. Why not send out a survey at the end of every season?

Because just like Tel-chek, hunters won't do it unless they're forced to do it. Volunteer anything just doesn't seem to work. What's the saying, " Locks aren't made for honest people". You can apply the same logic to all hunters being truthful a/b what they kill.

Robinhood, I personally have already got enough crap with me going to the stand to start with. I hate to know that I got to keep up with a long piece of paper and carry a pen with me also. The majority of the camps in my area are on some type of DMAP program any ways. If they want the kill #'s just ask the biologist and I sure he would send it that way.

Talked to a GW about this last year and he said awe its not too much trouble, I always got a pen on me when I go to the woods. I was like, naw, you do, well hell your a GW I hope you got one. Telecheck in my view is just a screwed up tagging system.

" Locks aren't made for honest people". You can apply the same logic to all hunters being truthful a/b what they kill.

You telling me there is only a few honest hunters out there, b/c only 3000 deer where checked in. The fact is people didn't call in b/c they didn't like the program. Next thing you know you will have to have a cell phone with you and call MDWFP before you can pull the trigger to see if it is ok.

Yes, tel-chek is a screwed up system. And no, I am not saying that there are just a few honest hunters out there. I am saying hunters (including myself) will not take the time to record their kills w/ a system if they are not forced to. Creatures of habit harvest their game, go back to the camp or wherever, then go home, w/ as little extra effort as possible. Tagging is not high on the list, and will not be done voluntarily(sp). What I wrote was "ALL hunters being truthful a/b what they kill".

I understand what your saying, but I dont believe telecheck is the way. I know several people who kill numerous deer over the limit every year and it pisses me off. But the aint gonna stop for telecheck, they are just in it for the kill. As for me, my wife bought me one of those hunting journals last year. Thats one of the best things I ever got, I got every deer I saw recorded on my computer know in a spread sheet along with weather, time etc. etc. Did the same thing with the duck hunts, thats one thing I advise everyone to get (a journal).

Checking game

Postby Sunchaser » Tue Jun 03, 2003 9:59 am

In TN we have to check large game (deer, turkeys) at the checking station. This is somewhat inconvenient but not that big a deal. It takes maybe 5-10 minutes to fill out the tag and you're done. Then, each year the TWRA comes out with detailed spreadsheets about how many deer/turkey were taken in each county, and compares it with previous years. I thought this was a pain at first, but now I don't mind and think it serves a purpose. Just my .02.

Peewee, we finally agree on something! I knew there was something about you that I liked.

Robinhood-
The reason they put a penalty/fine on this is because they assume every sportsman is guilty of something until he jumps thru the hoops to prove he's innocent. It's an attitude that has trickled down from the liberals on the federal level.

Ms wildlife officials have taken the liberal position in "monitoring the herd", which is one step closer to the day when they will outlaw hunting altogether.

It will be a sad day for ms outdoorsmen if those misguided souls have their way w/ this thing.

Go24, how is Crybaby these days anyway? I heard he and Brook were secretly seeing each other again. Any truth? Hope not. Jr. needs a Champagne girl at the next winner's circle.

You ought to go into comedy.

If you had watched the race last Sunday you would know where he was and what he was doing- kicking Jr's butt.

go24,

How the hell did you come up with this? Cause I'm far from it.
