Question about win X2 ammo? and choke tube?

Postby gunner » Thu Jul 10, 2003 2:28 pm

I have a new winchester super X2 3.5. I was wondering if anyone new what ammo and choke tubes give this gun maximum pattern efficiency for duck hunting. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

The only way for sure that you will know is to experiment at the patterning board. In general, most people like LMOD or IC chokes and 3" #3's or #2's. Your milage may vary drastically.

I have good performance from Kent Faststeel #2 and #4's 3", modified choke. I have only used 3 1/2 's once for geese. I got a Briley choke but have yet to pattern it, I have shot ducks with it and seemed to hold a tighter pattern but not sure.

As others suggested, try different combinations. I have found that with my SX-2 I get the best all around patterns with a Trulock extended, improved modified, choke with either 3" or 3.5" # 2. I reload my own shells so that allowed me to 'fine tune' the best load/choke combination for my gun. I have found and others have found that the backboring of the SX-2 usually requires just a little tighter choke to get solid patterns. Where some like the Mod, the SX-2 may like the ImpMod.

You will love this gun!!
