Greenhead Gear mallard dekes

Postby Wingman » Fri Jul 11, 2003 6:09 pm

Anybody seen 'em in Cabela's catalog?

I'm usually not a sucker for 25 dollar/dozen decoys, but these things look good. The detail is there, the color scheme is there, heck, even the relaxed head look is there...not the half-alert/half-spooked look you get with regular dekes.

Y'all check 'em out. For 25/dozen, I'm thinking about getting a few. Yeah, I like swivel-head GandH's, but when you get a dozen or more dekes sunk every year from South Carolina boys 2 shot, you start looking for ways to save ;) Just kidding Kevin!

I've been looking at them hard also........$25 for dozen weighted keel doesn't sound right to me. I know that the paint didn't last on last yrs model, may have changed it to be better for this yrs. Those G & H mallards for $55 isn't a bad deal also.

Rob......'haven't seen'em in Cabela's, but they have'em in Bass Pro Catalog.

GHG Life-size series 16" $35/dz water keel $40/dz weighted
GHG Over-size series 18" $40/6 weighted only

Turn the page and you got XPS 'Extremes' (Redhead)

Std mallard $30/dz water $40/dz weighted
Mag mallard $60/dz $70/dz

I ordered some GHG mag mallards and BW teal (6 of each) to see'um first-hand. (Delivery is mid-July to early-August).

What's appealing to us (besides the realism), is the removable keel. We can use'em in a dry field or 'plop'em in floating vegetation in shallow water, saving set-up and pick-up time. Maybe Waterfowl Review.com will work-up a product review if he can talk 'Avery' into to sending us 'bout 6dz of each duck species........and 12dz Goose shells and floaters of each species.

'Not much variety in the head positions on the GHG goose deeks......but they're mighty good-looking decoys, none-the-less. I noticed G&H and Higdon dropped their prices on honker shells to $80 (G&H std shell) and $170 (Higdon 'Stackables'). They WERE $100 and $200 respectively.......probably thinking GHG is going to claim a good portion of this year's market.

I like my G&H's too, but I'm also willing to try something new.

GH-22 watch-out 'bout those G&H std mallards in Cabela's. What's pictured with that $55 price tag is a Magnum mallard (unless they've changed their molds [i.e. not the same profile as the 'old' stds.] and started puttin' swivel heads on'em). Cabela's has been known to 'mis-print' stuff, before. :? Better ask some questions when you place the order.

I noticed that the first time I saw the dekes in that catalog. Those swivel headed dekes didn't go with that $55 price...

I believe the greenhead gear dekes in cabelas are also removable weighted keel.

Wiat until we come back Rob, better hope you let us shoot over the cheap decoys.

I seen the XP series last year, looked great but did not hold up at all and plastic seemed a little cheap. GHG is claiming that this years models will hold the paint better and are more durable.

Here is a link - not trying to spam for I like G&H but who knows if these things claim to be that good I may sell out. I do know some folks here that are opening an online hunting store and plan on stocking them. So once they get them in I will investigate.

They're in the newest Cabelas, the one that just mailed about a week ago. What is it the Fall catalog? 24.99/dozen weighted keels.

'Don't guess I've gotten that one, yet........I got one last week that's like a hardbound BOOK.........called 'Special Edition Volumn 2'......doesn't have near what their waterfowl 'specialty' catalog has in IT. Maybe I'll get the Fall 'Master' catalog, soon.

'Doesn't matter.......'spent all the money on waterfowl hunting stuff I' GOIN' to.....'til September. 'Can't wait to get next month's MC statement.

Anatidae, you got the luck of the draw (according to Cabelas) and got the limited edition hardbound catalog. That's all your getting, so you'll have to cozy up to GH22 and borrow his, if yours is missing some stuff.

I saw those dekes too, I'll have to try 'em. If my memory is correct they don't have a tie off "peg" on the front of the keel like a G&H but other than that they look nice.

I just looked at Kevin's link, and these are the "hot buy" mallards. They must be smaller than the "lifesize" ones. But I like the heads better on the hot buy, not that it really matters, but they look really good.

Hopefully they hold up better than Carry-Lite/Paint-Off and the newer Flamboyant dekes.

The same "removable keel" decoys that were sold by Mack's last year at a really cheap price had serious problems with the paint. The drakes I have peeled like a bad sunburn, and you won't be removing the keels once you get them in without 2 guys and a pair of pliers. Perhaps they have improved them this year. Caveat Emptor.

'Booger'........I guess they start sending folks those "Special LIMITED Edition" catalogs after a fella buys 15 dozen G&H decoys. Maybe they thought it would look better in our walnut appointed Library. (Hehehehe)

Rob.......how many dozen o' those 'greaseball' (scaup/bluebill) decoys you figurin' on gettin'? They DO look good, don't they? Mix-in a few 'Ruddy's and 'Bootlips' and you'll have you a good catfish pond spread.
