my dad does it.... every now and then. he has a pistol field planted if you will.... just big enough that he can cover all ends with his 357 six inch barrel.....
If it wasn't for bad luck then i would have no luck at all........

Shot a coyote with a .357 one time and vowwed not to try and deer hunt with it. I too had a .44 Redhawk before I sold it. I wasnt very good with it so I bought a .223 Thompson contender pistol and then sold it . Personally I would go for the biggest most accurate thing you can throw at em. My .02!

yes you can kill a deer with a 357 pistol. I am thinking about buying a 357 barrel for my Thompson Center Contender now, I already have a 22LR, 30-30, and a 7-30 Waters pistol barrels. I hunt with or shall say have had them in the woods while hunting aint seen anything to shoot while I had it with me.

Got a 44 mag and 223 barrell for my Contender... Both of them 14" barrells.. Which is basically a rifle with a pistol grip.. No need for anything else..

killed a couple of deer with my 44, had trouble with the bullets performing at higher velocities...loaded fairly hot to maximize speed and increase range the bullets tended to not open well and never got good wound channels...last buck I killed with it had to shoot 3 times...wouldn't just put him down. Switched to 7x30 waters in a contender loaded with a 140 grain ballistic tip and solved that problem...killed several deer and hogs with that combo....
He's comin' back around...

I'm curious why you vowed not to hunt deer with it. I got a .357 the first of the year and have thought about bringing it along if I get one in at close range.

I have a Contender 30-30 14" with scope, but have never really hunted with it. Going to try some this fall, but I like to bow hunt too much.

I shot a doe with my dan wesson .357 a few years ago. Shot her at 30 yards with a 158 grain hollow point and it didn't pass through. took her almost 100 yards to start bleeding. all this to say that if you do it, watch the deer's body language. If I hadn't, I would have never found her.

Ummm, OK sure.
Re: Deer hunting with a pistol??
Just bought one of these in the middle of last season... S&W Performance Center .460 with 10.5" barrel. Fixin to put a Leupold handgun scope on it. Haven't shot a deer with it yet, but it has brought down a couple of hogs. Can't wait to bring a deer down with it.

Yes, I know it's overkill but I have an addiction to unique guns and I am trying to slowly build a "collection" of sorts.

When I shot the coyote, I had a bad experience. Didnt do a very good job on him. It was point blank range too. I guess you would say , you never get a second chance to make a first impression.
