I plan on eating there (dutch oven) tomorrow. I could eat there every day I think. One day I am not gonna order any lunch, just get 3 pieces of pie. Those mennos do a good job!

CRAWDADS OF MERIGOLD. What place for a Mississippi hunter or visitor of the Mississippi Delta can you be surrounded by a 400+ seat hunting lodge with a true Mississippi Delta atmoshpere. Not to mention good steaks with a choice in seafood menu. Its truly an oasis in the Mississippi Delta. I would put Crawdads up with any of the best in the South much less anywhere in Mississippi. You can not compare the prices and amout of food with anywhere else in the south. I have yet to see anywhere that can beat it.

Na. It was about a month ago while i was in town, and as usual i enjoyed everything about it. I got the 32 oz bone in ribeye which was wonderful, and my girlfriend got a grouper and crabmeat dish that was probably the best fish dish i have had in a long time. But as far as Delta cuisine goes i guess i pissed in the wrong hole or was mistaken about what this discussion was about. Although all these places are good there are too many different stages here. This discussion is going from hot tamale joints, to country fried steaks, to sunday neck bone buffets, heat lamp hamburger gas stations, to steak and seafood places, to breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I do not see how any of these have any relavance to each other. I'm not saying at all that all these places aren't great and that i do not love every one of them because i do. But everything aside, in my opinion, i can not say i have had a "steak and seafood" place in the Mississippi Delta that has compared to the atmoshpere, enjoyable waitstaff, price, and food that i received from Crawdads. But also props to the Sigmas and Doe's also i heard #2 Steak House in the nation. Love Doe's also

Not sure if it's technically the Delta, but the place on the square in Lexington is awesome. The name escapes me right now.
Anyone been there?

I enjoy Doe's but i will take Crawdads. Menu, Waitstaff, Liquor, Charcoal, and Atmoshpere. I can cook a broiled steak with a little salt and sit in my kitchen any night of the week. But to each their own.

I'm going back along way with this one; Ruth and Jimmies in Abbyville.

When I was at Ole Miss in the 70's we drove up there most every day.

For $2.00 you could get the best homegrown vegetables and peach cobbler ever.

They aren't open any more.

What a shame.... man I loved that place.

I really hate it when people consider Oxford the "Delta." I saw an episode of Emeril and it was about Mississippi cooking. Anyway some music dude was up there (Josh Kelly) and Emeril was talking about delta catfish. So Kelly trying to be hip talks about Oxford and the Taylor St. Grocery or some place. Sorry, back to the subject I guess.
If it doesn't work out there will never be any doubt that the pleasure was worth all the pain.

Back in "the day" it couldn't be touched, then it burned & I think they over-expanded. The same "feel" you talk about isn't there the way it used to be and to me the food hasn't had the same soul it used to have (only eaten there 5 times since it has been re-built, though). If you didn't find it until after it was re-built, then you'll have no reference, so I see where you are coming from.

Madidi in Clarksdale is good...Morgan Freeman's "fancy restaurant". I tell you, maybe my favorite place in the Delta, although not highend food and though it has horrible service, is Ramon's in Clarksdale. It is a local's place. Best onion rings around and a fine hamburger steak.

I have had some fine meal's at the Bourbon Mall, although I hear it is not what it was anymore.

I have never been a fan, but KC's in Cleveland is the highest rated restaurant in Mississippi.

There is a new place in Clarksdale called Rust that is owned by the son of the owner of Sanders Seeds and and the son of the owner of Mississippi Limestone/McAllister Grain. I hear it is good, but have not had the opportunity to eat there yet.

Finally, I am a sucker for a cheeseburger from The Varsity in Belzoni.

Eat before you go. You will leave hungry if you don't. I went and ordered a stuffed portabello mushroom for an appetizer. It came out on a 10" plate and there was a mushroom the size of a quarter in the middle of it. Heck, I looked around and thought it was a joke. I order a filet' for the main course and it was 4 bites of meat, 9 diced potatoes about he size of my pinky finger nail and 2 pieces of asparagus. I ate it in about 3.5 minutes. I could see through the piece of cheesecake I got for desert. I left there, went to McDonalds and ate a #1 :D . I will say that those 7 bites were really good though

I have not eaten at Rust either. I did not even realize CD was part owner. The chef is from around here too. Ramons has some good food, just gotta be patient though.
