New Wal-Mart logo

Postby Woodduckdawg » Sun Jun 29, 2008 9:29 pm

The Wal-Mart logo is getting a facelift.

By Jon Gambrell, Associated Press Writer
LITTLE ROCK — The familiar logo of the world's largest retailer is getting a makeover.
Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) said Sunday the company will begin replacing logos on the front of its U.S. stores with a new design beginning this fall. Wal-Mart spokesman Kevin Gardner said the change would reflect changes customers already have seen in some store signs and advertisements.

"This logo update is simply a reflection of the refreshed image of our stores and our renewed sense of purpose of helping people save money so they can live better," Gardner said in a written statement.

Gardner said he had no other information about the change. However, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that the new look would include eliminating the hyphen in the company's name, now shown as a star at its more than 3,600 U.S. stores. The new logo would show company's name in white letters on an orange background, followed by a small starburst, the Journal reported, based on an artist's rendering filed with planning officials in Memphis

The revamped logo comes as Wal-Mart continues to tweak its image after facing criticism from union-led groups and local communities across the nation opposed to big-box store developments. In the time since, the company has launched a marketing campaign highlighting its environmentally focused practices and efforts to make health care more affordable for customers through a discounted prescription drug program.

The company said it last tweaked its logo in 1992. Customers remain most familiar with its current incarnation, a white block-type logo lit against a deep blue background, red lines above and below.

That's great Doc, I wish more people would avoid that place. I have vowed to never go there again. My family isn't alowed to shop there either. I even take it so far as to go if we are having a party and you show up with a walmart sack you can come in, but whatever is in the bag can't. I absolutley hate that place!

Come on GG I aint skared.. I mean I know all the politics of how they treat thier employees and that they ran all the small town business owners out of town, and they buy all thier stuff from China and so on.. But isn't that part of Capitalism? Did I skip out that day in Micro or Macro Economics and miss the part where I am suppose to hate them because they are successful. You know I am all for supporting the little guy.. But in most cases I am the little guy.. I have done my price comparisons and what costs me 100.00 at WalMart will cost me 125.00 somewhere else. Espcially if I have to drive all over town to get the things I need as opposed to getting it in one place. When your budgeting 600.00 for groceries each month your talking 750.00 to go to another store like Kroger or The Pig both of which don't have the same selections. That extra 150.00 goes into my Kids college fund. I just can't see telling my son in 20 years that he has to pay off his college debt because I couldn't stomach going to walmart once a week.

Cwink, I personally agree with you on the saving the money and putting it to good use, but wally world aint always the cheapest on the ole grocery bill. I know our local (family owned) store sells alot of stuff cheaper and overall on the bill would come out as cheap or cheaper.

I support the home town when I can, and I dont hate walmart, I hate going there but you know how that is. Just check the local stuff, sometimes it is in fact cheaper.

I have.. Twenty pound bag of dog food at Wally World 7.56. Same bag at The Pig about 14.00.. That is 6.44 dollars per week of 25.00 a month.. So I have compared them.. We have a Dollar General that is closer and is cheaper on some things than Walmart. So if I gotta run in and get something I'll go there. But we go buy bulk about every other week (on payday) and it is cheaper overall to go to Walmart..

got nothing against thier success, I am all for true capitalism in every form of the word

I dont like, however... the size of the store, they are not always the cheapest, the customer service is terrible unless you want to return something, and the products are largely inferior even to like branded products bought from a different source

and the biggest thing I dont like about them is the fact that the store is set up to make you buy more than you need and that is a quality we are all inpervious too, especially my wife

never have or will hate them, although I do hate that the marketing tactics for many retailers often prey on those that cant afford it in the name of saving you money

I will agree with you on that.. They particullary market to kids.. Hence my 3 yo rants when we drive by without stopping. But you know the saying. The worst customer is an educated consumer. If you know the tactics going in, you have no one to blame but yourself when you walk out..

Do they have their prices advertised? If so walmart will match it, all you have to do is take the print off or a newspaper advertisement when you buy it. I can say this, I dont buy all my goods from walmart but the last time I looked Kroger and the Pig dont sell my fruit of the looms or ammunition. As times are getting tighter we goto Sams and buy bulk more often. We dont buy everything in bulk because it would be a waste of money to buy 50lbs of tomatoes from Sams if your only can eat 20lbs before they ruin. I usually buy my meat from either kroger, vans in brandon, or country pleasin it just depends which way im driving home.

Yeah they do advertise but why would I drive 30 miles one way just to hassle with making walmart match a price on a package of cheese? The trip alone would cost at least 8 dollars
