When will Mississippi set season dates?
Any idea when dates will be set?
If you can't duck hunt, than red fish!
Come on guys, what do you expect. Lord knows that we are dead last in everything else, why shouldn't we be last in setting our season? Last season I actually emailed someone asking about the season. Guess what--never did get a reply. Imagine that. AR, LA, TN and AL all set their seasons first and then we drag ass in at the last minute. I guess that the powers that be figure it's dramatic to wait until the last minute. One would think that some of them would finally wise up and say "Hey, alot of people come here to hunt and that's alot of money. What if we announce the seasons sooner, then maybe people can plan ahead. That would maybe generate more money?!" "Shoot bubba, don't you know that them there yankees gonna' come on and hunt anyway, besides, I gots to go pick up my kickback money from some of them PETA folks. I ain't got no time to be setting dates!"
Beatings will continue until morale improves!!!

Scott, Go on and tell us what the dates are going to be. I know you know!
What ever you told the council is what they are going to be.
On the spot! Scott, in your professional opinion what do you feel the last day of season should be and how many days afield should we get?
Take into account that GC's shoulder is bad and he want be able to shoot but acouple of shots per morning!

The last day of the season...I would like to see us be able to go to Jan 31 with no penalties by the USFWS. The system that was put into place last year is a good compromise. The number of weekends must be considered when setting the dates
How many days afield......As many as the resource will allow. This year it is 60 days, and I think we should get all 60.
How would you place those 60 days within the dates set by the USFWS? With 60 days it is hard to mess up, but when we go to a 30 day season it will get a little harder. How would you place the days if you only had 30?
I personally like to see 2-3 hunting days during Thanksgiving. There always seems to be some ducks in the state then and the hunting is fair. More than 2-3 days though seems to be all they (ducks) will take take before moving on and hunting quality diminishes.

AR set their seasons today......from the other site.......
Seasons, Limits set
60 days Nov. 22- Dec. 7
Dec. 12-Dec. 24
Dec. 25- Jan 25
They took the Christmas Day off option.
Six Duck Limit, Four mallards, One Mallard Hen
Pintail Nov. 22-30 & JAn 5-25
Canvasback 12/27- 1/25
Every Commissioner commented about the e-mail campaign and the effect that it had on their opinions. If it went the way you wanted it, I'd suggest that you send them a follow-up e-mail thanking them for their consideration.
The 60 days were unanimous. The vote was 3 to 3 on the Limit, with Chairman Sitzes having to cast the deciding vote for 6-4-1.
Nelson, Freeze, and Morgan voted 5-3-1. Black, Varnell, Wood, and Chairman Sitzes voted to go 6-4-1.
One Commissioner stated that he got 114 e-mails and 90% wanted the fourth mallard back.
More comments and info later.
