Does anyone know if the Pittbull ban in Brandon was past.. All I could find was this.

Sec. 14-38. Ferocious, vicious or dangerous animals prohibited.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or maintain within the city any vicious, ferocious or dangerous animal or fowl. Any such animal or fowl may be impounded or destroyed.
(b) The violation of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor.

KWAKHED wrote:Hey, Irongrip, if you really did your research, you would have read that the opposite owner had to wash down the opposing dog before a fight. This was to insure that there were not chemicals in the dog's coat to deter the other dog from winning. The dogs were bathed several times. Also, the handlers were required to be in the pit with the dogs, sometimes laying right beside the dogs. The dogs were bred to be DOG aggressive, not HUMAN aggressive.

That's my point. I gave a little shorter version. Some owners or handlers would take a cloth and rub it on the sweet spot of a dog in heat and rub (if they were fighting males) the cloth on his dog so the other one would think, for a while at least, it was a hot female. This is another reason they started bathing each others dogs.

What would happen to a dog that show aggressiveness to people? Wouldn't live much longer would it?

If the kid had wandered into a pasture with a mean bull in it and got killed would you blame the bull?

It doesn't matter what I say on here because most of you have already formed opinions of pits or other types of "bulldog" type dogs. I agree that ANY dog needs to be put down after an attack on any innocent person. Labs, cocker spaniels, great danes, dachsunds, dobermans, pits, bulldogs, german shephards, etc...

I have a pit and an american bulldog. You come in my yard at your own risk. They are good dogs. Will they bite? Come to my house and get aggressive or come and be up to no good and you can answer that all by yourself. I don't fight my dogs. Thats wrong in so many ways. Matter of fact, I rescued my pit when he was about 3 months old. He came wandering up with a trainer mutt so I put the mutt down and took the pit and made one hell of a pet. The american came from a cousin. She was a catch dog. She got a jacked up tooth from her last hog. Sweetest dog I have ever owned; just don't come trying to mess with my wife or she will catch and hold and if your lucky she won't leave you lying in a pool of blood.

The whole deal with the 3yo is very bad. It sucks in so many ways. The dog deserves to be put down. The parent deserves to be in jail. The dog owners are already going through enough $#!+ right now. Put yourself in there shoes. How bad would you feel that your dog killed a child? I would feel horrible. About the same way I would feel if I was driving down the highway and had a blow out on my truck and had a head-on collision killing a child. Small chance in hell that that would happen but its always a chance.

You have a right to own a gun and a right to own a dog. There are stupid people with guns in their house and stupid people with dogs. But a "vicious" dog and a gun are very similar, they both can hurt someone if the owner is not in control. You have to be trained to use either.

Take my words however you want to. Everyone has there own opinions. You can say whatever you want about dog breeds, but just know that not all dogs are alike. What most of you have done is stereotype a certain dog breed.

duckdr1970 wrote:Gotta get my in .02........This is simply a tragic accident, however.....

1st....Were dealing with an animal and we will never fully understand what is going on inside their minds. Plain and simple. Pit Bulls or Daschunds....trained or untrained.

2nd....Any parent who lets their 3yr old child play in their yard or the nieghbors yard at 09:00 pm with out adult supervision should be reported to DHS.....this is 2008 not freaking 1962.

3rd.....The dog owner has an obligation to his neigborhood to attempt to provide a safe environment for the public however he chooses to detain his animal whether it is by city animal laws or what have you.

4th and final....The dog should be put down just to prevent this tragedy from happening again. If I owned any breed of dog that mauled and killed a human, 3yrs to 30yrs, it would be the right thing to do...IMO.

Personally I hate the breed in question and would never own one, there is some truth as to how they are trained, but you can train a bear to be in the circus and do tricks, but he will still go back to his animalistic traits and behaviors always. He's an animal.

Also this type of chit would never happen to someone on this board because most or all of us have some sense of family values and responsibilities that would never allow this incident to take place.

Agree 100% with one and two as for 3.................. WRONG!!!!

The owner had the dog chained on HIS property to which he has the right to protect. The parent(not parents since pops is in the big house) has the responsibility to protect her child and letting it wander the streets till dark at 3yrs old isn't an option. That is negligent on her part and DHS should investigate and put her with the hubby or babby daddy. I bet if you asked her 5 times her account of the day you would get 5 different stories. She new the neighbor had a PIT for protection from theives and so again she was negligent. I bet she let the kid out early and when the street lights came on and all the other kids came home WITHOUT lil junior she got worried.

Just a thought........ Crazy man in flowood off his meds and known schizo is naked running around and tries to get into a guys apt. He calls cops and they shoot the guy.... dead. They aint JPD they don't miss. Could they have handled that differntly......yes he didn't have a gun.

If someone "wanders" into my house I pray my dog would maul them. If my dog is loose and bites someone I am liable. If someone "wanders" into my dogs yard they are liable. No grey area black and white.

Tragic the kid had to pay for something his stupid mother could have prevented. If the kid had been hit by a car DHS would have her in cuffs and this is no exception. Child neglect and endangerment plain and simple.

Also number 4 was off as well.....

Yes you can train a bear or tiger etc to be tame heck even ol bambi can come eat out of your hand but don't forget all dogs originated from a wild animal at some point not just pits. I have been around some great pits from house dogs to catch dogs and have been around some German sheperds and Rotts that would rip your head off.

The owner is going through hell just as many of you would if you shot a young teen breaking in your house but that teen should have had his A#$ whipped when he was 3 yrs old to know better and no1 would have to be put in that situation.

What would constitute a dangerous or ferocious fowl?

That pet mallard of Don Milla's like to ripped my hand off when I tried to feed him a peanut. Damn thing ought to be chained up! Or euthanized!

One more question who is gonna sue who?

In Clinton, the ban is breed specific, and Pit Bulldogs are at the top of the list. The list also includes Chows and Rottys. Does it work? I dunno. But then, I haven't heard of too many people having to pull a Duck Nawteek with an AK in my neighborhood. Please note that I have edited my first post on this thread. Thank you.

If it had been your child you would be singing a different tune.
This dog was not confined behind a fence where a child could not get to it. This law is much like a swimming pool where the home owner is required to make the property safe for children that would see it as an attractant.
Bottomline is that child probably saw the dog and was thinking "Puppy" when he made his way up to the dog. Had the dog been behind a fence it would have been a different story.
Both sides is where the blame rest and you can try and justify it any way you like but what is to say it would not have happened with the parent standing right by the dog. Only takes a second to rip out a childs throat.

Officers in question should have used a shotgun (which was probably in the rack in the car). Poor judgement discharging pistol in populated area for dispatching a dog.
99% of fault lies with parent or sitter of child for negligence.
I am not a pit bull advocate by any means but any domesticized animal could possibly turn or attack for any provocation, even as simple as approaching it.

sad deal.. fingers can be pointed both ways.. imo.. the dog owner has some liability,,,

but i think the 3 yr olds mother has the most responsiblity... i'm very sorry this happened... but i'm pointing most of the blame at the childs mother... i have a 1 yr old who just started walkin... my wife and i .... we don't ever let him get outta our sight... we're right there by him to insure he doesn't get into trouble.. how do we do this/ it takes teamwork. it takes a mom and a dad... as a parent it aint about you and what you like to do... once you become a parent its all about doing all you can to help insure that your offspring have every chance possible to succceed and become all that child is capable of becoming...

the sad fact and one the you won't hear most people say because its not "p.c.",,,,, the sad fact is that too large a % of the africian american population doesn't understand what it takes to be a parent... the afircian american father figure is sketchy.. too many young negros grow up without a father... the rate at which young teenage afircans become impregnated is unacceptable...

i could go on and on... this aint racist.. just the truth.. i aint got no problem with the negros that work and pull their weight... put the reality is that too many of them are sucking us drryyyyyyyyyy..

When 90% of dog maulings are done by cocker spaniels, they will receive a stereotype, too. Fair enough?

No probably won't, it makes too much sense.. We all know politicians don't do anything that makes sense.. But this has nothing to do with Obama. This would be a city ordinance.. Of course the Jackson City Council has said nothing about this.. Either way they point the finger they are going to loose votes, which is all the care about.
