need help finding a gun for fiance

Postby hotty toddy » Wed Sep 24, 2003 9:40 am

My fiance is wanting to start shooting some so I have been looking around at 20 gauges for her to shoot. Me being in college I am on a tight bedget so I have been bargain shopping. I ran across an over and under at Wal-Mart made by Fausti. I have never heard anything about them but it was only 500 dollars and it felt pretty good and was a fairly good looking gun.

Anyone know anything about Fausti's or are there any suggestions on a cheap 20 that would be a good fit for a woman. She has short arms so a pump is pretty much out of the question (she has trouble with them) because it is hard for her to work the pump.

Any suggestions?

If you can get by with a used gun, I would suggest a 20 ga. Remington 1100 or 1187. Should be able to find a good condition one for around $400. If she decides she does not like shooting, either gun would be easy to sell. Both are soft shooting and fairly light automatics.

Find a youth model 870 and let her try it on for size. The stock and the action are both short and it's pretty light weight. The down side is they are fairly pricey and a used one is kinda hard to find. The 1100 is also a good choice and every pawn shop in MS has one (12 ga.), not sure about the 20, good luck...................

Before giving your fiance a gun, you should ask a few basic questions: Does she have a bad temper? How often is she really mad at me? Has anyone in her family ever been known to behave violently when drinking? If so, does she drink? If the answer to any of these is "yes," I would consider tennis or golf lessons!

Hard to beat a Remeington 1100. I would find a used 20 or even a youth 12 as they are very light. A tip learned from starting 2 kids and a wife. Give them one shell at a time; never load the thing up with three. Too much room for error. Learned the hard way and my son nearly shot my foot off! I should have known better!

I am not bashing fivemile but I wouldn't! I speak from experience. The Remingtons are fine guns for the money. I own both models. However, they are a little heavy and awkward to most female shooters. They generally have a wide forend stock, uncomfortable to a lot of women. Also, stay away from pumps. They will discourage most female beginners. You will find used auto's everywhere for great prices.

My fiance shoots a Beretta Al390 20ga. It is in a whole other class of shotguns, shoots incredibly well and is as light as many quality over-unders. I bought it used for around $400. I understand your financial delima, but how much would you spend on yourself a new gun? After all you are buying yourself a new dove gun also! You will not find a better gun for the money! She is your future bride, spend a little extra!

Out of all the ideas I have read, I like the berretta 390 option. It is a great gun. Very little recoil and would actuall have a dual purpose. She could use it to shoot skeet and what ever, then when she got tired of it ( and trust me she will) you will be able to use it as a bird gun perfect for dove, & quail. The only bad thing is you will have to ask permission to use it. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Look for a Beretta 303 youth/women's model on the 'net. It will already have a shorter stock, soft pad and higher comb. They are excellent guns. They are also being priced way down now that they are not in production any more.

Hey man check all the pawn shops before buying a new gun that may not get any use in the long run; since your low on funds. Any youth or ladies model will do, I prefer those older ithaca featherweigt autoloaders, real light and the action absorbs some of the recoil, anyway thats my 2 cents.

I was at Bass Pro Shops in Memphis today and happened to look at a youth 20 gauge pump gun that would fit any one with short arms. The gun was only $240. I think it was a Winchester.

Fausti is a good gun. I like them as a turkey gun. But they are good.
