Breathable Waders

I am about to purchase some new waders. I cannot seem to find a pair of neoprenes that I like that do not end up leaking within a year or two of purchase. I currently have some 3.5mm waders that I enjoy, but they have a slow leak I cannot seem to fix.

Anyway, I have some breathable fly fishing waders that I really enjoy. They have been abused on rock bedded streams all over Arky and Mizzou. They are comfortable and I can adjust my layering for temp.

My question, has anyone ever used anything like the Cabelas breathables to duck hunt around here? Cabelas makes a duck hunting version w/a 600 gram boot. I am thinking about pulling the trigger on them but would like some opinions from ya'll. Thanks

for our climate you cannot go wrong with a pair of swampfox from lacrosse. light weight, breathable and tuffer than the neoprene imho. i absolutely love my swampfox waders. i think i only hunted 3 times last year in neoprene waders due to breaking ice

I am like you in that it's time to replace and I was too wondering about these new high-end breathables. Have seen some that actually have neoprene on the inside for warmth.

You know, we got extremes down here...some morning hunts are at 60 degrees at shooting time, while others are 8 degrees. We've got it all, but I only want one pair of good reliable waders and it might be good to wear the more comfortable breathables.

Will be intersting to see the replies if anyone has used these.

I having been wearing breathables for 3 or 4 years and love them. I hunt out of blinds mainly and do not stand in water for any length of time. About 2 days out of a season you would rather have neoprene or, as you said, put on another layer.

There are a lot of breathables out there. I have looked at cabelas (love my fly fishing waders), Lacrosse and Orvis the most. Orvis has an amazing pair that double as waist-high waders, but I am not dropping $450 on waders. Therefore, I am really down to cabelas and lacrosse. I have never bought anything by redhead (basspro brand) that I have liked. I tell you, the swampfox waders might be in the lead the more I look at them.

I have a pretty good layering system that I use when flyfishing (water temp at or below 35 and air temp in teens) and have yet to get really cold. That is standing in ball deep water.

My main concern is durability. Will ice cut them? Sticks? Are they of similar toughness to a good set of neos?

In the past 8 years I am on my second pair of Cabelas dry plus waders. I use the waist highs with boot foot and just love them. For me in the warmer climate that you all they are the absolute perfect waders. They are durable, lightweight and comfortable. They seem to hold up well to roseau canes and brush. However I don't get around trees that often.

I would buy another pair.

I wear the cabelas dry plus waders and love 'em.... they are pretty tough and brush resistant, and are easy to patch (and it holds if you do it right....I only use my neoprene waders 5-10 times a year and since I have the neoprene's I've never used the breathable waders in the ice.....

I got a pair of Swampfox that I crappie fish and they'v held up gettin in brushtop's so far but they are not breathable.

After 3 years of good, hard duck and snow goose crawling useage, left my lacrosse aqua fox waders in a trash bin in Argentina. They started leaking this spring and finished up leaking like a sieve. But they were great while they lasted. If Jeff can get 4 years out of a pair, they ought to last me 5 so I might try Cabela's brand.
