Anybody know about car stereos?
Anybody know about car stereos?
Looking to replace the factory stereo in my 04 Silverado. Was wanting something that will allow me to control my ipod through the stereo controls. Looked at some that will let you put the ipod in the glovebox and you can search playlists, folders etc. through the stereo. Anybody know where to get a good deal on something like this and where to get this installed?

I know that Pioneer Radios will allow you to do that but the only thing is that you have to buy the Ipod adaptor cord and that thing about 85 to 100 dollars the last time i checked on it. I'm not real sure about the rest of the radios though.

http://www.crutchfield.com If you buy it from them they give you detailed installation instructions, the mounting kit, and the adapters to hook it up. It's not as complicated as one would imagine. The adapters (not including the iPod adapter) and mounting kit alone is worth about $50-60 easy.
One word of advice though if you buy an aftermarket head unit they are usually a lot more powerful than your stock radio. So be careful not to blow the cheapo factory speakers. For and $100-150 you can replace the factory speakers as well with some low end 2-way speakers and the sound will be a ton better. Just throwing that out there.

Also look at the ones who have the USB ports on them. I think that is an awesome idea. If i put another one in mine, it will ahve this feature.

I think Circuit City and Best Buy both have installers. Audio Central on Lakeland can do it as well.

all i know is if you have the bose stereo system its not going to sound near as good as it does stock because of the amp in the bose head unit, but if its the plain jane bs get a cd player with a good internal amp and replace all the component speakers
