I'm sure everyone has thought of this at one time or another, has anyone ever made one? How did it come out? what materials did you use (wood, plastic, etc.) Where do you find reeds, and all the supplies? Fill me in.
Remember, where ever you go; there you are.
Wish I had it now, but my best friend's Dad made a cane duck call when we were just boys. Mr. Hudson Thomas from Yazoo City made and it lasted long enough for me and his son Hudson to learn to use it and get ducks in...my best guess is they just wanted to come there anyway, but we took credit for it. I don't have a clue what he used for the parts. Sure wish I had that thing to look at, it would mean so much more to me now than it did then.

I make calls a little bit. Got a lathe about a year ago and have turned about thirty different barrels. Made only a few inserts. Let me tell you, it is tough to make ducky sounding calls consistently. I still need lots of work on my tone boards. All of my Haydels and other brand calls now have awesome exotic wood or acrylic barrels. I made a few barrels for GH22 a little while back and they turned out pretty good.

I made my first call about six or seven years ago. I had some old cypress knees laying around the house so I figured what the heck...it can't be that hard.
This is a picture of my second call - made as a gift for my father. It was done with a pocket knife and a power hand drill. I used a spare reed from my old rich n tone and shaped the toneboard by hand. It doesn't sound too bad considering what I had to work with
It's a little easier with the right tools.
