heart broken
heart broken
I took my son to the woods this morning we got all set up before first light and it looked real promiseing, at exactly 6:55 he was telling me that his feet were cold so I moved things around in the stand so he could stretch is legs out and get a little blood flowing, well I moved and bumped the side of the stand, (Its one of those four legged shooting houses with plywood on the sides) well it sounded like a bass drum in the woods, right then he said "daddy look, right there daddy, daddy its a buck" at that point I was still only half concious, Yeah I bumped the stand with my head, and yeah it hurt like he!!. When I finally saw the deer he had stopped short of the food plot by about a yard and was only 15 yards out looking right at us, I know thats my fault, if I hadnt been so clumsy he would have walked right out in the middle of the plot. My boy had the gun up ready to go but the deer steped back and went almost out of sight, he stayed on him and finally we got a quartering away at 30 yards he stoped I told him now, BOOM deer went down all four in the air, we watched him thrash around for a min and my son was begging me to shoot him again, I told him no that the deer was dead and there was know reason to shoot him again, I could see him laid out he had quit moving and when I quit having a heart attack we got down and started walking toward him, On the ground you cant see 3 feet in to the woods let alone 30 yards, well we got to where I thought he shot him, but didn't see him, finally I found where he had been, about a gallon of blood, hair, and even a piece of bone but no deer, we looked from 7:15 until 2:30 this afternoon, I don't have a clue where the deer went I trailed it for about 100 yards or so but then the blood played out I really heart broken and my little boy is really PISSED. just needed to vent.

Go back in a few days, look for the buzzards, and get your son's horns. It may not hit the skinning rack but it will make his day for sure. Hate to hear that happen for both son/deer. Just part of the hunting experience. Good luck in the future.
Re: heart broken
You'll find it. And when you do, you'll laugh at how it all went down.. He'll have a good story about clumsy old dad when he is in the stand with his youngun..
