Need advice------"good ideas"
Need some advice------I know everyone has or should have some traditions concerning our treasured past time of duck hunting. My duck hunting experience goes WAY back and thus traditions have been set. This tradition started back in the in the 70's. We had a group of 6 guys that were "hard core" duck hunters. Opening weekend and closing weekend were exclusivly ours---no guests!!!! Special times where had on both of these weekends---ducks or no ducks if you know what I mean. The camp was ours---nights were long, days were "special" spent in the blind. Over the years our original group has dwindled to 2 "old time" regular hunters and one part time---once or twice per year. During the past ten years we have added sons/sons in laws of the original group to our fold. So, we now have 2 oldies, including myself, and 4 "youngunes". The last ten years have been fun for us "oldies". Teaching, laughing, training the youngunes on how to duck hunt the right way! I will have to say that they have taken care of us as well. We do not have to do anything but scout and tell them were were are going to set up----they even know how to put out the decoys verses wind directions/conditions for success. They even take right to the area and build the blinds for us to enjoy our time together. The advice I need is this: One of our current "members" has informed us that he will not be there on opening weekend. he has decided that a trip up north to hunt pheasants is more important---------is he crazy?????? Anyway what should we do to him to get even with this kind of behavior he is exibiting ???? Should we hold it against him all season----one hunt-------????? I know the MS ducksters will have the "right" advice here so lets hear it----if you know what I mean!!!!

You know I think you should hold it against him all season. Or at least the first and last hunt of the year, by showing him that his is replaceable, you can accomplish this by letting me have his place ..
JK.. Don't hold it against him.. He'll learn what he missed out on.. You might just want to embelish on the things he missed out on when he gets back..

Re: Need advice------"good ideas"
i have hunted with my dad since the mid 70s and we did til hunting changed and it was more like golf and everyone started hunting ducks since it was cool. he quit cause the sport was being run over by big money folks and people they didnt know much about what hunting really was about. i always imagined hunting to be a sport of father son or friends sharing memories not look at what i got -mine is better than yours or ours cost more. i still hunt and miss the old times with my dad and cant believe the sport has gone to where it is now. i would give anything for my dad to want to go again but he told me last year that he didnt care for the sport and has taken up fishing

just one hunt--wait till you are thick in birds and tell him he can't hunt and bring ME instead!!

Re: Need advice------"good ideas"
It sounds like to me his debt can be settled with a fine bottle of bourbon and a whole ribeye dinner with all the trimmings for the next weekend.
When it come's to duck calling and duck killing its the indian not the arrow!

I'm with ya outlaw josey wales,
My dad use to be a hard core duck hunter back in his younger days. He has many stories where he and a good friend of his would hunt every day with with no decoys or calls and kill the he$$ out of em. Once money and others got into it, he backed out and stayed with deer hunting. I have nothing against anyone with money because I would pay to have a great piece of land to duck hunt if I had the extra cash. My dad has been duck hunting with me one time and said its nothing like it use to be. The good friend that use to hunt with him decided he is going to try to get back into this year and got in a lease with a couple of friends and I. Hopefully my dad will be interested in going a few times just to share some old stories he has of hunting while we sit in the blind. Friends and family duck hunting together is what it's all about to me. It's a great time for fellowship.
Wouldn't hold it against your friend for not being there opening weekend. Bring the stories up from the weekend and give him some trouble, but let it be all in fun. Tell him yall had the limit before 7:30 even if you don't limit out. Tell him yall sure could have used that extra gun. I'm sure it will be different without him but make the best of it. Just make sure he doesn't miss the last weekend when yall all get together! I would hold that against him if that happens...

Crackhead may be on to something.............................any problem can be fixed with alcohol and food

But in this case you may have to get creative, but you cant blame the guy entirely for coming up with a better deal.

Re: Need advice------"good ideas"
IF it was me I would make sure on that one hunt he was able to kill another rooster, a southern rooster that is. AKA Barn Yard Pimp,
Get you a chicken and have some one already there so when he gets to the blind and ready to hunt, have him (guy with the chicken)set him (your rooster huntn buddy) up to kill the chicken. Do it early morning right after shooting hours so he cant tell what it is, other than a big bird...
That will teach him to go after roosters when there ducks to be killed.
