Duck Poem

Postby missed mallards » Thu Dec 04, 2008 6:58 pm

Got bored, started typing, hope ya'll enjoy
Yes, about as Topwater as you can get

The smoke from exhaling the cool morning’s air
Surrounded the hunters as they stood there
In water up to their chest
And shells in their vest
They could only smile
As they heard the birds from over a mile

Geese and Ducks chattered up the sky
As the hunters hugged their tree not to ask why
With the sun soon approaching out to the east
They could only dream of the after hunt feast

Eyes drawn to the sky
They tried seeing what would fly
Woodies or mallards? What would it be
Just let it rain ducks they both agree

A quack was heard over the canopy
As both hunters reach for their trusted Weatherby
With a soft quack from the old call
The duck didn’t hesitate to take the fall

Guns roared throughout the land
With hunters wondering if it had a band
The release of the dog was a sight
As the dog leaped with all his might

Splashing through the tangled mass of sticks
Both hunters smiled for he knew the tricks
Holding onto the mallard so tight
Both hunters new this morning was right

More quacks were heard and guns were fired
As the dog made each leap with the same desire
Smiles were shared yet not many words
As the hunters just waited on the birds

Limits were filled and the dead was done
At 80 years old they still had fun
Gun’s on their shoulder they started back
Like times before they had filled their sack

Relying on their skill and nothing more
They were glad to do it just once more
With a pat on the back and a stiff handshake
It was all that was needed to celebrate

HAHAHA, yeah you can kind of say I have way too much time on my hands.
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

I'm not trying to get to deep, but I sure hope i'm still able to enjoy hunting at the age of 80. Just to share the experience with someone your whole life. Looking back the the years and just smiling.

Nice work MM

mm it doesn't matter if its Ralph Waldo e
Emerson or a 4 year old...its not the poem...its to me the fact you are so passionate about it that its all you could think about so you expressed it in writing...I am glad there are people that passionate about it!
