The brand of shell you are using may have something to do with it. I always had a problem with my 870 hanging on Winchesters.

As far as the surface rust, if you are using a gun case, it may have moisture in it.

1) wipe gun down after every hunt, or rust will build up
2) Polish your chamber, I have done mine and hanging up is a past memory.

Now watch it hangup LOL
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

well the surface rust isnt as bad after i bought a gun sock for it to keep it in at home to wick away the moisture. and yea i think it was the winchesters cause i started shooting kents and it wasnt half as bad....its just disapointing to find something like this after buying a new gun

Flat black bbq spray paint works good as a base coat. Then other colors if you want to camo it. Hell it's a duck gun don't have to be pretty.

If you paint it and polish the chamber you will never have another problem with it.

You get what you paid for, but still a good value for a cheap gun.

Let the gun set out in open air once you get in from hunting. Otherwise the cold metal will sweat as it heats up to room temp and moisture won't have anywhere to go if its still in a case. Started doin this a year ago and haven't had any rust since.
