good advice.
I think everything is ready and in good shape. I have ideal conditions...hopefully the guy who plants them won't screw it up.

I thought being a forester I might have some good advice, but you guys all seem to know what you are talking about. It is good to see folks talking about planting trees (especially hardwoods). It never hurts to get as many opinions as possible but Double R 2 said pretty much all the right things. Good luck with the planting.
You can't direct the wind but you can adjust the sails. So do what you can where you are with what you have.

Good luck with the trees. I have done the CRP on 2 plots. If your are enrolling then I would recommend that you find someone that is is known to the local FSA. They will already have contacts and be familiar with the local requirements.

One big item is site prep. Don't skimp. kill everything the summer and or fall before you are going to plant or you will end up fighting the grassess later. I ended up with Johnson grass in some of by buffer trees and now we are on the 2nd treatment of oust and will likely need roundup this summer. Sure wish I would have had more time for prep. I really did not have much time due to my sharecropper leaving after 2 years of deer eating all of his crops.

You will really enjoy watching the trees mature.
Wait until their feet drop, then shoot them in the face!!

I recommend Nail Forestry Services out of Oxford. I have conducted compliance checks on many thousands of acres that Jimmy Nail has planted and it will be done right.
