Need some help boys....
Need some help boys....
My wife and the youngest daughter are planning a trip to Memphrica in April.Momma wants to see Graceland. They are booked at the Peabody.Just need to know the in's and out's of where they can and can't go.
Any suggestions on where to eat, have a beer would be helpful too.
Thanks,
Howard

Hope you are planning to come with them.

Book your room in Southaven and drive everywhere in Memphis you'd like to go during the day and you'll be fine.

What he said, but nothing wrong with staying at the Peabody just use the valet when you come and go at night. Good local places to eat include
The Rendevous - ribs
The Butcher Shop - steak
Buckleys - steak
The Commisary - bbq
The Rest at the Peabody is nice, cant remember the name
Vinegar Jims - Arlington, TN (30 miles from downtown)
General Store (Brunswick, TN)(25 miles from downtown) Catfish Friday night
I prefer the local joints to the natl. chains my self
Beale St. is a must and the Rum Boggie is good for a drink and a meal
Might be able to watch a Red Birds game (Triple A ball club)

but you left out texas de brazil for a great place to eat. Make sure you sue the valet at the peabody. Make sure they are graceland in the day time and leave the area in the day time.

Graceland is in a portion of town called Whitehaven. It is the second or third darkest area in town, And after dark it is one of the worst areas in Memphrica. The stay at the Peabody is OK but it is not all that. Everything that is good at the Peabody is open to the public. The room rate last time I stayed there was close to 200.00 There is a new Holiday Inn in Southaven that is about 15 - 20 minutes from the Peabody and Down town.

Stay off any street that is named after a state
If the birds are flying great, but if not, enjoy the time; at least you're not at work.

Must eat at the Commissary, and while there start with the BBQ Nachos

Thanks for the help fellas.I do appreciate it.
I won't be tagging along on this trip.Momma does have a CHL and will be heeled.
Gonna heed some of ya'lls advice and see about gettin her to book someplace other than the Peabody.

Stellas is closed. But there are plenty of good restaurants downtown to eat. Felicia Suzanne's, which is also on main, is excellent. Agian, another coming to the city post. Ht, most people on here are scared of memphis, plain and simple. While plenty of memphis is a total $#!+ hole, Downtown memphis is actually pretty safe. They have cops and security patrol all over the place to be sure that it stays that way.The Peabody would be a good experience for the young un's. I highly recomend that over southaven. Southaven, in a nutshell, is cookie cutter suburbia sprawl at its finest. I agree with the graceland deal. I wouldnt be over there much after dark.
