Need a little help. I have St Augustine currently in my yard, but I've got several blank bare patches that need to be covered. So here are my questions:
1. Can you buy St Augustine seed?
2. If not, would it work to blend in Centipede?
3. When would you seed in Starkville?
4. What type of fertilezer?
5. What type of weed killer would you suggest for the existing lawn?

If the birds are flying great, but if not, enjoy the time; at least you're not at work.

Dan, when would be the best time to put out the Centipede seed?

Re: Turf Guys
ok, so i've got st. augustine too. i'm not a grass guru by any means but i do like to keep my yard looking good in the summer. my dogs have about killed all of my grass in my backyard. I laid some sod (st. augustine since that's what my yard is. problem is, my whole back yard needs to be resodded cause it's not very thick. i put out weed and feed last year.
question is? Do I need to go ahead and put the weed and feed out now? then in April, put out the centipede?if so how much? then do I put the triple 13 on top of that. Sorry, just don't know much about this?

Re: Turf Guys
My folks have about two to three acres of it in their yard, when they trim around the beds they use a shovel, the divets are plugged into the bare spots - much like the surgical baldness rememdies. water it and it will spread; it likes shade and lots of it.

Not trying to ridicule your advice but I strongly disagree with 3 of the 5 answers and one is iffy.
2. That's your decision, but I wouldn't
3. Soil temperatures must be in the 70's. It's got nothing to do with daytime termperatures. Usually this means consistent daytime temps in the high 80's and no sign of a cold front that will bring down the ground temp. Seeds germinate in the earth and it's triggered by soil temp.....not air temp. I would wait until the middle of May.
4. Soil Analysis is your best answer, but I would bet triple 13 isn't what will make your grass look the best.
5. Scott's weed and feed is not your answer. Not now. Not ever. Anything you buy like that is idiot proof because of the liablity Scott's pontential has by selling in box stores to Home Owners who don't know how to apply correct rates. Use a 3 way herbicide such as Vessel. Image can be used as well. (you can get this at home depot) Atrazine if you have a license. Don't forget to pre emerge.
