SEC rivals
Let's talk rival schools within the SEC. Obviously, some schools may have a bigger rival outside the SEC, like South Carolina/Clemson.
When I say rival, I mean which rival does said team want to beat more than any other. Where does the hatred lie -- whether it be frustration, envy or disgust. What game is circled on the calendar most as a fan?
I guess we should filter it even more to just football since thats really the only thing that matters - lets not kid ourselves with this baseball and basketball stuff.
Let's speak traditionally as well. Arkansas can't claim Ole Miss now because of Nutt. They simply dont have a true SEC rival.
You also can't base it on who is hot during a certain year or time frame.
Team : rival
Alabama: Auburn
Auburn: Alabama
Arkansas: None
LSU: Alabama
Ole Miss: Alabama
Mississippi State: Alabama
Georgia: Florida
Florida: Georgia (some might say FSU OOC)
Tennessee: Alabama
South Carolina : None
Kentucky: None (Would Louisville bec considered their OOC rival?)
Vanderbilt: None
thoughts?

Re: SEC rivals
IMHO the entire sec has become one big rivalry, as far as each team
lsu vs arkansas
ole miss vs state
auburn vs bama
florida vs georgia
tn vs kentucky
vandy vs sc
basically all the last games of the year are the big ones because there instate or cross state rivalries
but like i said earlier the sec has turned into a big rivalry since they are getting alot of media coverage about being the toughest conference to play in so every team brings all they have every week, especially since the last 4 national championships have come from the sec and theres a good chance it will happen this year

Re: SEC rivals
Arkansas vs LSU (Golden Boot)
Aurburn vs Alabama and vice versa
Ole Miss vs MSU and LSU
Flordia vs Georgia
USC vs Florida ( just due to Spurrier)
UT vs Bama maybe...i would say that's a stretch
Kentucky?
Vandy?
As an Ole Miss fan, I would rather beat LSU and Alabama more so than MSU. Generally a win over one of those programs is a better measuring stick of how good your team is than beating State because the better team is not always the winner of that game. If you beat LSU you know you've beet a good team same with Alabama.

Re: SEC rivals
Yall are missing the boat here. Name the team, then name that teams rival. Don't do the "XXX versus XXX is a big rivalry."

Re: SEC rivals
Historically I would say UM is LSU's biggest rivalry. However lately, to me the Auburn game has become one I didn't want to loose until Satan went to Bama. Now that's prolly at the top of the list.
However not a long term rivalry, but I have a lot of respect for Tebow and I look forward to playing him all year. Even if the game gets ugly.

Re: SEC rivals
Again, let's back up here. Let's not get too emotional over who your teams rival is and then ranking them.
Take each school. Pick who you think is their biggest rival based on the criteria laid out on the original post. It may be hard to sense how the overall majority of the South Carolina fanbase may feel towards a rival school. But history, personal experience and common sense should help nail down a selection.

Re: SEC rivals
I would say LSU vs. Ole Miss. Back before I was born, this game routinely determined the SEC and was a grudge match. I have read numerous stories of LSU fans leaving the stadium after playing anybody but Ole Miss and chanting Geaux to Hell Ole Miss. A recent example is the LSU vs. Ole Miss game in 2003 that decided the SEC West, sent LSU to Atlanta and ultimately to the National Title and also resulted in a new Heisman pose from Mr. Eli Manning. Through in the fact that said Heisman poser grew up in New Orleans.
So this rivalry has history, significance, bearing on championships, proximity (somewhat) and a long standing hatred of the rival school just because they are wearing either Purple and Gold or Red and White.

Re: SEC rivals
That was a touching history lesson on the Ole Miss/LSU "rivalry"
So, your opinion is that most LSU fans see Ole Miss as their biggest rival? Do you think Ole Miss fans feel the same? What about the other 10 SEC schools?
We're getting closer to righting the ship...

Re: SEC rivals
I would think so, as I got numerous one finger salutes last time I was up there, indicating to me that we were in fact their number one rival.
But growing up, my dad had a good friend that was a Rebel and I remember hating going to his house because of the Rebel stuff everywhere.
Throw in the Billy Cannon run, the "extra time" on the clock, complete with a sign at the LA/Miss border reminding people they are entering Louisiana and to set their watch back 4 seconds. To me, this is the team I want to beat every year.
Now, I want to beat every team every time, but this is the loss that gets to me the most. Doesn't matter what the record is or what is at stake, I want to beat Ole Miss, even in intramural basket weaving.

i'll speak on behalf of an overwhelming majority for the ole miss students. Most could give a rats booty about winning a game all year if we can just beat lsu. Yeah the state "rivalry" is cool but as far as hatred goes for Ole Miss: Lsu; The hatred doesn't come out as strong against state as it does lsu. yeah we hate state and all that blah blah but definately lsu more.

If I am a fan of said school, this is how I think I would answer.

Re: SEC rivals
Ole Miss = MSU
MSU = Ole Miss
Auburn = Bama
Bama = Auburn
Arky = Nobody in SEC
LSU = really nobody in SEC although the Ole Miss game has a lot of history, they were Bama's stepchild for so long that it cannot be considered a rivalry, although Saban has brought hatred. LSUs natural rivalry in the east is Florida and the winner of that game normally heads to Atlanta...the same can be said with Auburn v LSU. LSU really has no natural true rival and generally harbors ill will for everyone.
No comment on the East.

Nicely done, SWAG. crazyjoe take note.
UT hated Alabama plenty in the 90s. While UT/Florida usually determined the East in the 90s, UT will always hate Alabama more than any other school.
Before last year, I doubt anyone in Arkansas considered Ole Miss a rival.
I guess Vandy considers its biggest rival TN as it is in-state, but its hard to have a rival when you lose 99% of the time.
Re: SEC rivals
i'd rather come down with gental warts.. than have to deal with pompus booty bama fans... easily the team i dislike the most...
and btw.. weedman, another history lesson here.. with regards to um and ark.. ohhh those two have a long standing hatered going back way before ark was in the sec.. as a matter of fact.. the two sides can't even agree on what the series record is....
maybe someone can fill us in what the dispute is about.. not to threadjack but i'm curious...
