Muscadine

Postby johndeere » Sat Jan 03, 2004 6:42 pm

Went to Muscadine this a.m. and had a good hunt. We were at the first set of ponds next to the office and we harvested 4 greenheads, 2 woodrows, 1 pintail, 1 green wing teal and 2 trash ducks. I would say that if you are drawn just go and even if you don't kill anything enjoy the time with friends in the outdoors. Shoot I hope you and you bunch had a good hunt also good to meet you this a.m.

Question about Muscadine

Postby bush » Sat Jan 03, 2004 10:31 pm

When you hunt there, do you lay on the bank? or is there enough cover in the ponds themselves to crouch down & hide under the coffee-weed, etc.

I've never hunted there but a buddy of mine has asked me to go next weekend.

Thanks.

Deere, glad to hear you had some success. I have been twice and only killed time. When I was there sounded like thousands (may be exagerrating a bit) of birds nesting on the ponds, but about ten minutes before shooting time you could hear them all get up and leave. The ponds near the check in seem to be the best. Bush, you should be able to hide in the grass on the bank of the pond. Hope you have better success than we did. Good luck!

Thanks johndeere, we drew 2,3,10,11 and had plenty of birds but they were rafting up out in the middle of the ponds. Luck of the draw I guess. But we managed 1 goose and 1 greenhead. Very nice to meet you hope it wont be the last time.Good luck to ya.

Hey johndeere, I am going this weekend and was wondering if there were any blinds on the ponds. I went once last year and there was some talk about putting some up on some of the ponds.

No blinds quack but ample grass and weeds to hide in.

Anyone one been to Muscadine lately or heard of anyone that has? Has the water levels changed(surely they have)? Is it still the same story, roosting pond with few coming back? Just getting anxious about coming up that way!
