Re: SEC rivals
I'd be curious too. Although, I still stand by my opinion that Arkansas has no true SEC rival.
You are a wealth of knowledge today, bigwasteline. Regardless of your hatred towards the greatest institution in the SEC...

Re: SEC rivals
took it a step further by adding the next biggest rival.
also threw in a few OOC's because i couldn't define a true SEC rival for said team.
some of these never change while others vary era to era - imo.
1.biggest rival 2. next biggest rival
Alabama> 1.Auburn 2.Tennessee
Arkansas> 1.Tennessee 2.LSU
Auburn> 1.Alabama 2.LSU
LSU> 1.Auburn 2.Ole Miss
MS. State> 1.Ole Miss 2.Alabama
Ole Miss> 1.MS State 2.LSU
Florida> 1.Georgia 2.FSU
Georgia> 1.Florida 2.Tech
Kentucky > 1.Louisville 2.Tennessee
South Carolina> 1.Clemson 2.Georgia
Tennesee 1.Florida 2.Alabama
Vandy> 1.Tennessee 2.Ole Miss

Re: SEC rivals
LSU has been a bullseye for everyone they play in the last 7 or 8 years, which is nice in that it means you are successful, but bad because everyone circles you on the schedule. LSU has had many mini-rivals over the last few years. The fanbase doesn't help any sometimes.
I suspect Bama is about to be the same for a couple of reasons. One, they are going to be really good as long as Saban is there. Two, their fanbase is the most obnoxious in the entire SEC and feels that winning is their God given right. I realize that LSU fits that same description, thus why they have been on everyone's radar.
As a general rule, however, I sense a ground swell of hatred towards Bama by fanbases from all over the SEC. Right now it stems from obnoxious fans with no recent titles to show for it and the celebration of "recruiting national championships." Bama fans will call it jealousy or envy, but everyone else recognizes it for what it is...being obnoxious.
Therefore, I suspect that Bama will become the rival of many schools over the next decade.

Re: SEC rivals
Always amusing hearing any LSU fan talk about someone else being obnoxious. Just stroll through red stick on a saturday...
Bama is and always will be the most hated rival for pretty much every SEC team. Thats because we have the most records.
Thats not being obnoxious, its just facts.
I'm old enough to remember quite a few championships. I am also old enough to remember how god awful LSU was prior to Saban. See how that works?

Ole Miss-LSU then State
You rarely ever hear go to hell State at the end of the national anthem. It is always go to hell LSU.
I think 95% of Ole Miss fans would say it is LSU then State.

Thank you webbmaster for proving my point.
This is exactly what I am talking about. "Because we have most of the records." Until this past season, Bama has been completely irrelevant for the better part of 15 years. Bama had their best team since their early 90s national title team this past year and had to use overtime to beat the worst LSU team in a decade and got skull drug by Utah in their bowl.
You must be pretty damn old to remember quite a few championships for Bama, also. Nobody cares what Bama won 30 years ago when college football was a completely different sport than it is today.
The reason so many in the SEC having growing hatred of Bama has nothing whatsoever to do with past success and everything to do with a false sense of entitlement akin to slave reparations. Your comments, to a tee, illustrate this point. I could not have formulated a more typical Bama response than that of yours above.

Re: SEC rivals
Sweet pout.
Here goes again...
Alabama is the most successful team in the SEC. Due to this, our fans expect excellence. Whats wrong with that? There is no sense of "entitlement." It's just the way it is. Because of this, over the years most rival fans tend to hate us the most. If there were no records, there would be no reason to be "obnoxious." We'd be just another team chasing the one in the lead.
My original post had to to with traditionally speaking. And if you want to use selective statistics and years to show that Alabama is "irrelevant" and there has never been a reason for other schools to hate us, then so be it. Don't feed me the "entitlement" "Recruiting national championship" and "sports were different 30 years ago" crap. Jeezus you seem to embelish the Alabama fan stereotype to extremes. There is only one bama bafoon on this board who seems to have that attitude. Should I make broad generalizations about LSU fans too? Baton Rouge is a cess pool filled with smelly obnoxious cajuns who think they are gods gift to college football due to recent success, even though they were irrelevant prior to 2000. See how that works?
I always love the "worst team in LSU over the past decade" bit too. We played our worst game of the year against LSU and still won. Not to mention we were pretty darn close to beating you the year before.. Do you see how THAT works?
You might want to rethink who you consider your biggest rival. Seems like there is alot of built-up hate towards Bama. Just sayin....

Re: SEC rivals
Back to the topic at hand, the consensus so far seems to be:
Alabama: Auburn
Aubrun: Alabama
Ole Miss: LSU
LSU: Ole Miss/Alabama/Auburn - Hard to determine front runner.
Arkansas: None/Ole Miss?
MSU: Alabama
Florida: UGA
UGA: Florida
TN: Alabama - sorry guys, the Bama hate far outweighs the Florida hate
USC: None in SEC
Vandy: can't hate
Kentucky: TN
Ole Miss fans seem to say that LSU hate far outweighs the MSU hate. How do MSU fans feel here? I think they hate Bama equally as Ole Miss.

So, your opinion is that most LSU fans see Ole Miss as their biggest rival? Do you think Ole Miss fans feel the same? What about the other 10 SEC schools?
We're getting closer to righting the ship...
I think since LSU got consistently good again, UM fans wanted to feel like a hated rival of LSU just to make themselves feel important. Not talking so much about last year as I am maybe '03 to '07.

You bring up a good point. Obviously that "rivalry" hasn't meant much lately because one team was doing well and the other was practically irrelevant. But, the hate towards that rival was still there. Thats what a true rival is in my mind. Regardless of how well a team is doing or not doing, the opposing rival fan still want to beat that team more than any other. No matter what the records or implications are.
I'm just trying to get a consensus across the board -- traditionally speaking.

Anyone that watched non BCS conference hugely underdog Utah pile drive AL would find humor in that statement. For the SEC, Alabama's showing in the Sugar Bowl was the most embarrassing thing to happen all bowl season. We as football fans are just lucky that you didn't squeeze it out in Atlanta or the NC game wouldn't have been worth watching and the SEC wouldn't have taken home the crystal football last year. Just sayin....

My point was they played their worst game up to that point....and won.
I completely agree with the Utah game. A horrible performance.
However, I am glad you can predict what would have happened if Bama had beaten Florida. Certainly you are smart enough to not make that comparison? Are you?
Anyone could see that that all our air was let out after the SECCG and the players attitude reflected it. It was hard to get up. Not making excuses, but its pretty hard to being a few minutes from the NC game to playing for not so much. Just sayin..
We as football fans are just lucky to have your analysis.

My analysis is the same as what any other non-AL fan's would be. Put Florida in the Sugar Bowl playing Utah after a near loss to AL, do you honestly think Tebow would let his team have the attitude that AL did? Or do you think he would've come out more determined than ever to show that Florida belonged in the the Top 5 at least?

Re: SEC rivals
Furthermore, I wouldn't be making smart booty, commanding comments like the one below, then blasting someone else as a know it all when half of the college football hype is based on opinions and predictions. You should know that as a Bama fan since most of your enjoyment from the mid 90's til this past year was based on opinions of recruiting classes and predictions of "this is the year".

You can slice it however you want to slick. I have no idea what Tebow would have done. I guess he would still wear his Superman outfit in order to finish in the "Top 5." I never knew the bar was set at "top 5." BTW, where did your team finish?
We've now been sidetracked twice. I was making a point to DM77. Start another thread about Alabamas Sugar Bowl performance or a Tim Tebow suckfest thread for all I care.
