Changing this is like changing the Nascar points system. Just because of a couple bad years you think it needs all kinda adjustments give it time everything will be back to normal. Someone said it best what comes around goes around.

I am for a 15/3 starting 1-15-05 thru 1-31-05. I know this will take the hunting pressure off the ducks and some of these wanabee's would stop hunting. Just like when we had the good ole point system.

Yeah let's get rid of the "wannabe's" so that we can sit around and moan about how we are a vanishing breed and are so outnumbered by the anti-hunters.

I submit that we let the management folks do their job and trust them on the numbers as long as it can be shown that they are using valid data to come to their conclusions.

JT by wannabee's I am talking about all the assholes who have run the price of duck hunting so high most can not afford to hunt. I am talking about the folks with MONEY who have run a 500.00 a year duck lease to a 35000.00 a year lease. Most of these assholes don't even hunt. They come down to go to casinos and chase whores. It is a cover up to get away from their wives! So before you get on your pedistal and start preaching to me about being outnumbered you need to know what your up against.

Torch,

My jab was meant to be light-hearted which is why I included the  . I understand your concerns about the big money folks but not all of them are as you describe. Just like us average guys they can be passionate about duck hunting. True, seasons like you describe would weed some of them out but it could also discourage alot of potential "low money" hunters that could as passionate as you given some encouragement. If these guys you describe have money to burn and don't bother to hunt then a short season won't bother them much. They can always tell the wife that they have off-season obligations on the lease right?

I understand where you are coming from I really do. I hunt public land, can't afford a lease and live in one of the worse areas of the state for duck hunting. Still I think that the rising popularity of duck hunting is a good thing despite the growing pains. Yes it has caused problems but I don't think that manipulating the season and bag limit numbers to try and cull the undesirables is the way to go. Not trying to preach, just the way I see things.

I'd be for the "point System"...ie. A Limit consists of gaining 100 points through bagging various ducks....
ie. Mallard Hen=100pts
Pintail/Canvasback =70pts
Redheads/Wood Ducks=40 pts
GWT/BWT/Gadwall/Widgeon/Mallard Drakes=30pts
All other ducks = 20pts

This point system CAN NOT be exceeded, only to achieve 100pts...ie...If you shoot a Mallard Hen on your first shot..YOUR DONE FOR THAT DAY!! Get over it you suck..You should have learned what you were looking at BEFORE you shot!!

Or you shoot 2 Woodies..then OBVIOUSLY you can only get a duck that is valued at 20 pts...THUS a 3 duck limit for that day!! If one were to shoot 2 Woodies then a Gadwall...You'd be over the bag limit....

However, if you can reckognize, Identify and actually call your ducks for which your bag limit allows....then have at it....This was in effect as I grew up in Oklahoma..Didn't realize how valuable it really was till I got out on my own...I also didn't realize there are A LOT of folks that CLAIM to hunt ducks/Geese that CAN'T ID the first damned Coot...AND maybe this would help eliminate those "Duck Hunters" that have the nerve to question why some of us shoot rusted guns...(poke poke Gadwall2)..At any rate my .02!
I may go to Heaven, or I may go to hell....But one thing is for certain..It'll be after Duck season!!

Sounds like a good argument bustin ducks. Ive heard many a story from my grandpa, who has been huntin ducks for over 50 years, about the point system. On the other hand, I think that we should keep the system we have now. In 5 years not one person will be bringin up topics on the season because the weahter will be nasty up north and everyone will be killing ducks. But I guess til that time comes all we can do is argue.
