wormy duck

Postby dixiedogger1 » Thu Jan 15, 2004 4:23 pm

I killed a Mallard yesterday and the breast has little white things in it. I think they are worms. This is the first time I have seen this but I havent killed a whole lot of ducks is this common?

Called "rice breast". It is not harmful to humans if you eat it. But, dang if this boy is going to!

I think it is called cystosarcosis or something about like that. The worms are harmless if you cook them but damn if I'm gonna eat em. I see it a few times a season.

It's called Sarcocystis. Yeah, you can eat it...but I can't bring myself to do it!
