Lot of race threads lately

I lived in Cleveland for 4 years and I would agree that racism is worse down here. Personally I think it is because "they" are more in your face with the attitude. Delta black folks seemed to keep to themselves more and for the most part were good people that just didn't know any better.

If sitting idley by isn't the Christian to do then what is? IMO, moving is not an action. Moving only perpetuates the cycle as successful people try to move further away from the problem. All you're doing is giving the problem room to grow stronger with less influence from level headed folks (look at Jackson if you need an example). People moved to Ridgeland to get away from Jackson, then more people leap frogged them and went to Madison, leaving Jackson in shambles and Ridgeland soon to follow. Now we have 6 chicken places on one block of County Line Rd and other places can't close fast enough.

This is a forum for hunters... White hunters, black hunters and any other color hunters... I don't mind hearing people vent about frustrating situations, but making blanket statements about any particular race is just wrong... It is wrong for black people to be racist and it is equally wrong for white people... Maybe I'm a bit naive, but I thought that the south had come a long way on this issue and it is disappointing to see so much hate coming from a group (hunters) that I identify myself with...

I'm spouting off a lot here, but it is an issue that touches a nerve in me.

Moving may actually be a great action, but not moving away. Why don't more Christians start moving into the bad part of town? Get involved in people's lives in a very real, tangible way. Be an agent of positive change.

I've got some great friends in Louisville, KY, who have bought houses in the West Jackson part of Louisville. They are planting their lives among people who need help. Their neighbors deal drugs, beat their children, and are leeches on society. But without someone intentionally getting into their lives and helping them see a better way, I agree, nothing will change.

Sitting idly by is not an option for Christians. Neither is moving away. But moving towards the problem is an option that most people, sadly, don't even consider.

But no one else will either, esp the folks that made up the white flight and moved further out strictly to put some distance b/w them and the blacks that we can no longer discuss on this forum. I am by no means saying that I don't use the N word from time to time. In fact I am know to unfortunatley have a pretty foul mouth. Just ask Forrest and Duncan DR2's kids, I bet I have taught them new words while fishing since they were about 5. I just don't think they have a place in this forum.

Unfortunately, there are very few in this state that agree 100% with what I said. If they did, then they would be taking action. And I would agree that it would be very hypocritical if people were even talking like that. It's obvious that there are few people who even think and talk this way. Even the church leaders I know in Jackson live in nice houses and gated communities.

some people can't be helped and don't WANT help - they are satisfied with their lot in life and don't want to change it, especially if they don't have to do anything AND get a check for it.

i understand that there are those who would like to improve their lot in life and just don't have the means or ways to do it and are trapped in places that are less than ideal. these are the ones that will scratch and claw to have the possibility of getting out of the rut they are in - they may not get out, but at least they the have hope to.

people are leap frogging out of jackson for reasons that go beyond just people that move into their neighborhoods. they are leaving because of the leaders (gov't) that have a clutch of people that depend on them and they depend on these people to depend on them to make their living (by taking advantage of the situation that the 'dependants' do not fully understand, or even care to understand) and give them votes to keep the cycle runnin round and round.... and that clutch is growing exponentially - not just in jxsn, but even in lil towns across the state as the power shifts to the Dem party (dependance is their forte).

Someone finally said it. How many are actually paying attention to this? There are African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Arab Americans, etc.

And then there are just Americans. You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You call me 'White boy,' 'Cracker,' 'Honkey,' 'Whitey,' 'Caveman'... and that's OK..

But when I call you, cheeseburger, Kike, Towel head, Sand-nigger, Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink .. You call me a racist.

You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you... so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?

You have the United Negro College Fund. You have Martin Luther King Day.

You have Black History Month. You have Cesar Chavez Day.

You have Yom Hashoah. You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi.

You have the NAACP. You have BET.... If we had WET (White Entertainment Television), we'd be racists. If we had a White Pride Day, you would call us racists.

If we had White History Month, we'd be racists.

If we had any organization for only whites to 'advance' OUR lives, we'd be racists.

We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, and then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that??

A white woman could not be in the Miss Black American pageant, but any color can be in the Miss America pageant.

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships... You know we'd be racists.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US ..... Yet if there were 'White colleges', that would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights. If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride, you call us racists.

You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society, you call him a racist.

I am proud... But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??


There is nothing improper about this.

That's why we have LOST most of OUR RIGHTS in this country. We won't stand up for ourselves!

I may be mistaken but a friend told me once that a minority candidate did not have to score as high as the caucasion candidate on the State of MS Highway Patrol Examination to become an officer...they preach equality but accept a lower standard

The south has come along way....when your talking about the white population's attitudes towards blacks, but the strides that the whites have made have been negated by the dissent coming from blacks towards whites nowadays....and don't use this forum as your example of us being back in the 60's....Mississippi has the most elected black officials than any other state. If we haven't made strides then you are crazy.

I'm not sure who said this, but I am not saying reverse discrimination or reverse racism or whatever you want to call it is right. Everything I have said would be just as true for the extreme Black Panther member as it is for the KKK guy.

I agree that it's sad that minorities have so much hate towards white people. The tension in Jackson is so strong you can feel it just riding down the street in some parts of town. That's not okay.

MLK, Jr., in that quote I put in my long post on the last page, was speaking to blacks. It's not right for them to hate just because they have been hated. In the same way, it's not right for us to hate (if we claim to be Christians) just because we feel like we have been hated. We are to love those who hate us.

I can't find who actually said it, but I heard someone recently say, "The only way for us to get past race is for us to get past race." I agree that neither blacks nor mexicans nor asians nor whites should have an inherent and unfair advantage in this society. Affirmative action is perpetuating the problem just as much, if not more, than the Klan ever could.

They don't nor do blacks(not minorities) have to score as high for the Memphis Police Department or the Memphis Fire Department.

In the Fire Department if three guys are up for promotion, two white and one black, as long as the black scores 75% of what the two whites score then he is considered the most elegable for promotion.......

The Memphis FD is quietly going thru the exact same thing that just got over turned by the Supreme Court.
