After seein a fellow with a clipboard walking around the neighboorhood in shirt with a company name that does not exist in the phone book I became a little suspicious. i watched the dude and he pretty much just walked around and wrote stuff down . I never saw him ring a doorbell but found out later he was. He is pitching a new security system that does not require a land phone line.
I am not saying he is a criminal but he is going into homes asking what type of system you have , writing it down and getting a lot of info from trusting would be customers. I checked out the company....APX. No listing in Jackson area. I may be jacking up this dudes new bussiness product but yall tell your wives not to let anyone in and double damn sure dont tell anyone what kind of security set up you have. Seriously this has got S#!t samwich written all over it. If I see the guy again I will stop him and tell him if he is legit he is going about his bussiness in the wrong way. I will keep you posted if I hear more. until then....be smart!!!!!!

call the cops. They can check out if he is legit or not and stop something from happening before it does happen.

Funny you post this, A guy from the same company stopped by my house on Friday here in Ohio with the same APX shirt on and gave me his pitch, I told him my two dogs and a shotgun was all the security system we needed. Needless to say he didn't care for that. I kinda thought it was a little fishy also.

As mudhog stated, call the cops if they bother you. To sell alarm systems, one has to be licensed to do so. In some communities and subdivision, they are required to have a permit to access them. If you want to get to the heart of the matter, call a cop or ask the salesman for his license.
I tried to sell alarm systems for 3 weeks. Door to door alarm sales is a tuff path, one that tore me down daily. You not only have to know every competitor, but have the stigma about past salesman lingering. That stigma was the hardest thing for me to overcome, in fact, I never did. I don’t have the ‘happy’ presence when I approach someone, more of an ‘all business’ approach. I swear I turned people to a shade of white that I never had seen before LOL. (Really note that funny, reeks hell on you when you think about how you’re viewed).
We offered landline and cell service for our customers. I traveled through many towns and found that a lot of companies where doing so also. With the new laws concerning telephone solicitation, companies have to look elsewhere to drum up business. This entails door to door salesman to get the word out. While doing so, the salesman may be keeping tabs of their competitors and such. That may be why he asked who you are currently with. Some are good people, or I am or think I am LOL and tried it. Then some, well, they may not be. If it concerns you, I would dig deeper, and find out the details of the business and his reasons for being in your area. The salesman should have no problem providing you with the information, as he is there to protect YOU!

Came by my house too, about a month ago. Said that he was only going to "certain homes in the neighborhood because of the drive by traffic", and that I was "lucky" because he wanted to install the system for "free". all I had to do was keep his sign in my yard and make sure that the cellular monitoring was in force. (read 'paid' here.) Does anybody else have their BS detector going off from these guys? I told him that the dogs 'and other means' are our security.

Apx Alarm is a great company and had provided alarm systems for hundreds of thousands of satisfied customers. The person that said that there were 986 in the last 36 months complaints on the BBB failed to mention that they were also all resolved and that the BBB recommends using Apx Alarm to secure your home.
In the last 36 months Apx Alarm has installed over 250,000 alarm systems so 986 out of 250,000 is not to bad and keep in mind they have all been resolved. Apx Alarm also has around 2,000 sales representatives around the nation and you are bound to find a few guys on their first day or week on the job and also a few sour apples that I am sure Apx Alarm deals with on a case by case basis.
Another point, to the customer excited about being monitored by a local company is that Apx Alarm is a nation wide company so they are local also in all of the United States, plus if you have a local monitoring station it is not necessarily a good thing because if a storm knocks out the local monitoring station, then it means your not being monitored, as for a nation wide company will back up your house with out of state monitoring stations.
