Duckmen this is for you I read your post about the standing beans and the warden.
that warden was Mr. Jim Pilgreen. the toughest SOB there ever was. but most of you will be glad to know he retired back in may. knock on wood I have never received a ticket from a warden.
But Pilgreen is a legend north of 82 hwy.
that man has rode trains, walked for miles at a time just to right tickets. I admire him alot. (just glad I didn't bump into him when I was messin up).
the other day I bumped into a new federal warden. I ask him if they hired 2 more new wardens. He asked why and I replied "cause its gonna take at least three of ya to replace Pilgreen. I tell ya boys Thats One Tough Son of a Bitch!!!!!!!

pilgreen was a very bad man indeed !!!! he would sleep in the brake to catch you!!!!! he was doing his job and doing it very well indeed and he went farther than 82 !!! try 61 north several times to check us. he and floyd sanders were great game wardens indeed and very fair. if you were close to doing wrong you got warning but if you were really out of line you got paper and pen !!!! hate to see both have retired because we will have the new breed bad asses here for 10 yrs til they figure out good guy bad guy difference..

I'm not so sure the ole' "illegitimate child" is gone for good, I've heard he's rethought his retirement decision and is possibly going to pull a Michael Jordan.

Yea I meet him on more than one occasion myself. I will never forget the first time he pulled us over in a boat. He had been watching us all morning and we had no idea he was there. It was during teal season and the birds were slow to begin with so we did not do a lot of shooting. As we were leaving he chased us down and pulled up next to us flashing his badge. Checked every thing in our boat, guns, shot, and when he handed me back my license before he checked my partner he said leave your license out your going to be needing it.
I thought what in the hell have I done. After checking us both and telling us to stay legal I asked him why I needed to keep my license out and he said that was his was of fuc$ing with hunters and smiled.
When my buds went to court over the field ticket in the other post. He actually took up for them saying that the law is vague at best, but that his interpretation was what I explained in the other post. Saved the boys a few dollars I guess. What I do know about him is that he was a good lawman and took his job very serious. When he wrote a ticket the judge just said guilty and that's that.
Yea I respect him and his kind, I wouldn't want his job.....

I have had the misfortune of falling prey to Mr. Pilgreen, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for the man. I was wrong and he was right. He was extremely professional and did not treat me or my partners with any disrespect.
I'd say he was the "James Bond" of game wardens - his creedo was "Whatever it takes". The American people got their money's worth when they paid Pilgreen every week. I hope that before retiring he did some training of game wardens on their work ethic.

the only ones that i can see who would have any disrespect for a warden is the ones who are doing something wrong !!!!! shame on you....if you think he was tough, just wait for this new crew to graduate...... you ain't seen nothin yet......

Judge, in my opinion, we need them. We love to hunt and kill ducks, but sometime our enthusiasm gets the better of us.
I think that the preservation of our sport and the duck populations depend on these guys. How much longer can we afford to have liberal bag limits with the rapidly growing amount of hunters. Somebody has to keep all of US honest. There are reasons for rules, and the reason for all of our rules and regulations is this: PROTECT THE DUCK AND GOOSE POPULATIONS, PROTECT THE SPORT OF WATERFOWLING, AND PROTECT THE WATERFOWLERS FROM THEMSELVES.
Someone has to protect us from ourselves or we would hunt year round and kill all the ducks. At least they would me because I love it that much.

I agree Judge,
I admire these guys, the amount of hours they work and the sorry salary they get makes them a breed apart.
A man has to love what he does to do that.
The real scary part is everytime they face someone they are facing an armed person. With as many nuts as there are out there, they truly live on the edge. Respect is what we all should give them.
The way I see it, if your legal they should be a welcome site. The Feds Cris Woodson, David Linden, and Tim Wilkins Are good people am glad everytime they make a showing.

The only experience I've ever had w/ a Game Warden was a good one. My dad and I were hunting a bean feild in early DEC. And along came a Thunderstorm out of nowhere-and I mean it was rockin! So we put our guns up against a tree and went out, and sat on our butts in a muddy field until the storm passed. What was so cool was that we had mallards working us and they would start to commit and then a thunder would rumble and they would flare. It was neat just watching because we didnt even have our guns. Anyway, when the storm left it was almost sundown, so we packed up and headed for the road, well there was a good ole' GW waiting on us just to see that we were alright. He checked us and was so glad that we were alright, he was geniunely conserned for us. I didnt catch his name but he was one nice guy. And it is like some of you have said, as long as your followin' the rules you have nothing to worry about.

duckmen I agree on what you said also you to judge. tim, chris, david, and PILGREEN are all good men and I'm glad they are out there.
I talked to Pilgreens Ex boss this afternoon Steven Gard and he said that Pilgreen was now working with some conservation group in south Ms. he said that he still lived in Greenwood and was driving south 3-4 days out of the week.
