Banded Ducks

Postby RiverDuck » Tue Sep 08, 2009 5:52 pm

I was wondering how many ducks were banded each year. Does anybody know a % of ducks banded (like 1 in a 1000)?

If 1/3 of ducks were banded I should have killed about 45 bands last year, haha

Like I said I am not sure but I remember seeing that ratio it may have been Canadian Geese which are said to be 1in5 but we shoot 75 or so a year and never shoot a band.

This is purely a guess but I'm thinking about 1 in every 150 to 200 mallards are banded. At least that average has held fairly steady for me over the years. I won't even try to guess on teal, widgeon, gadwall, woodies, pintail, black ducks, spoonies and divers.

I've heard it's somewhere between 1 in 150 to 1 in 200. I guess somewhere, some guy is killing bands on every other bird because that average is not true to my hunting. more like 1 in a thousand for me.

Don't know how many are banded, but we also usually run 1 in 150-200 mallards have a band. It's more like 1 in 50 on wood ducks though according to our records...

Woody hens = bands, cause they nest in the boxes, not quite as high a % as with homing pigeons, but stilll good odds. I would go greater than 1 : 300 on mallards depending on where you are.

all ways heard you averaged a band per 250 ducks. I agree with the some others. more like 1:1000

easiest way to get a band = jump shoot into a flock of 10,000 snows.

They could band 95% of all ducks in the world and I still couldn't kill any with Bands..I've killed thousands (Literally) in my life and Never a band..Just bad Luck I guess

i killed 3 in 2003 and have put my hands on over approximately 2500 ducks killed by me or friends with me or me with them and so on and on since then and havent seen another since then. so my odds are not so good.
