Re: Troy Williams (EDIT ABOUT CODY NOV 27TH)
I remember when cody was troy's family. He was single and cody was the reason to go home, let alone the only thing there when he got there. Troy and I have been friends since we where about 4. Somehow we where apart for several years. When he got cody, he realized he was a special dog, and needed help to bring it out in him. When he walked into that sf meeting that night steve got up to introduce us, and I jumped up and hugged him. When you can be apart from someone for years, and pick up like nothing ever happened, thats a rare person and friendship. Troys life mirrors mine in so many ways, he's one of the few people from my youth I don't harbor some back of my mind resentment for (people that knew me when my dad was alive)... thats my own demon, and I deal with it. Troy understands that. He understands stuff about me my own brother, and my own wife don't. This isn't about troy... this is about Cody. And cody was the thing that brought him back into my life.
We spend so much time on tests, trials, ribbons, and hunts, when a dog is talked about, the only thing you can tell someone is well, he was a buddy, an hrch, a mh, a qaa, great hunting dog, yada yada. But only if you look past that, and what these dogs do bring into your life. I can remember cody as a young dog, running a triple in vires pasture nobody else could do... and when it was over, he wouldnt leave the line. steve was calling him, calling him, he wouldnt budge. It took us about 90 seconds to remember the diversion was still out there, and had been for 3 retreives. I remember the most blood bath of an hrc test I ever saw, one of 5 rowdy ever failed... only one dog clean, and it was cody. I dont remember it just because of the marks, and cody over coming it. I remember it because troy, and ronnie, and me drove 12 hours north together. They took their weekend for rowdys chance at fame... and I remember hours of conversation on the way home as much as I remember the marks in that jacked up test.
Everyone loves their animals. My wife misses her little ankle biter elvis. I would not ever say that people that don't do this with their animals, love them any less. Thats offensive. But i will say they love them different. And the different is what makes it so hard when they are gone, and so wonderful when they stick around.
These animals make us different. We do different things with our time, our money, our vehicles, sometimes our occupations. Yet they stay the same, they just love us, uncondtionally. Cody went from being Troy's roomate and only live in family, to accpeting other dogs, a wife, a wife and a child, without hesitation. Troys life changed again and again, yet cody stayed the same, the uncondtional love. We should all try to be the person, the average lab is, and we'd all be better off.
Cody I loved you. For your talent, attitude, abilty, all the normal dog stuff we see in a special animal and loved. But I loved you most of all for always being there for troy, and from bringing him and his family back into my life. If you never had a ribbon, you'll always be a champion for that. A gift I could never repay no matter how many birds I threw for you. There is no pain, there is no hurt, your body is now back to wonderful condtion your soul always was. Sleep well, and I'll to take up your slack in taking care of Troy for you. travis

Thanks everyone! Travis thanks most of all for your words here and your help that day. You are a blessing as well.
We could go on and on with stories about Cody and Rowdy and the crew. I think there were so many days like Indiana for us as a group.
Much fun!!!
Cody will be missed for as long as I breathe.
